Did anyone get a new kitchen gadget for xmas? Cookbooks? My lovely husband gave me the latest Moosewood cookbook, " Moosewood Restaurant Celebrates " , to add to my collection. I've made a couple of things out of it already, but I don't think it will become of my favourite Moosewood books. It's nicely laid out by holiday and seasonal event themes but I much prefer my copy of " Vegetarian Celebrations " by Nava Atlas for sheer variety. Several of the recipes are recycled from previous Moosewood books, and I'd rather see fewer recipes for sweets and more variety amongst the entrees. And one bone I have to pick with Moosewood is that they are getting too heavily into the seafood recipes! They keep sneaking them in there and it's a real annoyance and a waste of trees, IMHO. Particularly since they keep billing themselves as a vegetarian restaurant. I think Mollie Katzen needs to come back and whip those folks into shape, and get them back on course again with through vegetarian cookery ;-). Anyone else get any interesting cookbooks for the holidays? Cheers, Kathy

Ooooh! That sounds really nice. My Moosewood collection of cookbooks include: The Moosewood Cookbook Enchanted Broccoli Forest New Recipes From Moosewood Restaurant Still Life With Menu Moosewood Restaurant ~ Low-Fat Favorites~ I own so many other vegetarian cookbooks that I have collected over the years that nobody dare buy me more for fear I may already own it. This list has alerted me to so many wonderful cookbooks! I can't seem to stop buying more. >I've made a couple > of things out of it already, but I don't think it will become of my > favourite Moosewood books. I shall have to add it to my " want " list. > And one bone I have to pick with Moosewood is that they are getting > too heavily into the seafood recipes! I didn't mind it so much back in my pescatarian days when they began adding in a few; I think it started with the 'New Recipes From Moosewood Restaurant' book, and then they kept going. I do have to say that I have several cookbooks, other than those Moosewood ones, that also bill themselves as vegetarian and still include a " pescatarian " section in them. I guess in some parts of the world it is not considered eating meat to kill and devour fish and sealife; we all know better though! ~ feral ~ To love is to have that extraordinary feeling of affection without asking anything in return. ~ Krishnamurti

Did >anyone get a new kitchen gadget for xmas? Cookbooks? I got 4 lovely cookbooks: One for coffee, one for mushrooms, one for apples and one for onions, which is useful as we have loads of onions at the moment! So far I've made onion foccaccia and french onion soup. Jinnie the Perky Goth, 2nd Lt. The range is called " Little books for cooks " as they are very small, about the same size as a square drinks coaster. The coffee one is a book about coffee, the others are recipe books. The onion foccacia recipe is as follows: On a lightly greased baking sheet, press 1/2 lb of refrigerated pizza dough into an 8 " round. Scatter sauteed onions, chopped fresh rosemary, salt and pepper over the dough. Drizzle with 1 - 2 tbsp olive oil and bake in a 200C(400F) oven for about 15 minutes, until foccacia is golden brown.
