hi all

I have to provide an afternoon tea for a community group I belong to

on 25 january, does anyone have any ideas for middle eastern or

Indian theme food, it doesnt have to be authentic.

If anyone has any ideas, I dont need recipes I can search that, I

just cannot come up with any ideas, I am vegan, and can adapt recipes

where required (except for cheese omeletes)

thanks

Hi! This one is too easy for me…

Hummus

Baba Ghanouj (roasted eggplant dip)

Taboulley

Lentil soup

Stuffed Grape Leaves

Falafel

Fou’l (fava bean dip, much like refried beans, only better!!!)

Lots of pita bread, cut into quarters

You could also make sambosas filled with vegetables (potatoes, peas,

carrots, onions, a touch of garlic, and parsley spiced with salt, cumin

and a bit of curry) The filling must be cooked first though, it won’t

cook in the short time that the dough requires for frying.

Another meal we have sometimes is (all fried in vegetable oil and

lightly salted): potatoes, eggplant, green pepper, onions, zucchini,

cauliflower, then we make our own little bite sized sandwiches (with

pita bread) in different combinations drizzled with a tahini-lemon sauce

and topped with fresh chopped parsley…delish! It’s called ‘Megali’

Arabic for ‘fried stuff’, LOL. Probably up there in the fat and

calories, tho. My husband likes this at room temperature.

I just made stuffed green peppers and zucchini (‘mashi’) the other

night, substituting black beans for the me*t and it turned out great!

Olive oil, lemon and mint are such a great flavor combination! Not

really a finger food though.

If you need some recipes, let me know. Good luck!

i agree with all the things lisa listed...hummus, pita

bread, tabouleh, falafel, dolmas, etc....

i'd also serve fresh cut up veggies (carrots, celery,

cucumbers, grape tomatoes, etc....to go with the

hummus). and put out an assortment of olives, nuts

and fresh fruits (dates, grapes,or dried apricots).

let us know how your tea turns out. i'm sure it will

be a success!

Here are a few ideas for your tea. I'm thinking mostly finger-food:

For middle Eastern - Hummus, Pita, Dolmathes, Spanakopita, black olives,

tzatziki, couscous, roasted eggplant dip, marinated roasted veggies and tofu,

greek roasted potatoes, falafel, fresh fruit salad, greek salad (without the

feta).

For Indian - Pappadums, chapati, pickles and chutneys, biryani, samosas, bhajis,

petis (potato cakes with stuffing), kofta balls, Raita, avocado salad, rice

pudding, mango sorbet

Stuffed bell peppers with whatever your choice of filling.

I look forward to hearing what you do serve.

I make the Sweet potato and green pea samosa filling

recipe from Vegan Planet, but insead of making the

samosa pastry, I usually just use flour tortillas.

Put some filling in a small flour tortilla, wrap like

a burrito and bake in a toaster oven until the

tortilla is crisp.

For dipping samosas I make a sauce made with guava

paste, orange juice and spices.

When I get home from work, I'll send the whole recipe

along.
