Guest guest
Hi all, I'm the newbie...Deb, mostly-vegetarian (long story), married to omnivore, four kids, only one of whom is vegetarian, but I'm working on it <G>. I've been browsing the archives & had to laugh when I saw someone (Denise?) mentioning that even Safeway are carrying more vegetarian options - she must not live near me LOL. I'm in rural Ireland, nearest big town (ie town with a grocery store) has a population of 11,000. We're moving this week, & where we're going - well, I don't know the population, but I do know there are only four houses in the townland with electricity LOL. Anyway, the Safeway " in the town " is pretty wild - they keep things like garlic & eggplant (when they have it!) in the " exotic " section LOL. I asked if they had any fennel, to which the response was (in a rather doubtful voice) " no, we wouldn't really do that " , I asked if they had celery seed, same response, fresh parsley, same response, wheatgerm, same response....sundried tomatoes are, apparently, only carried at Christmas (??) & when I asked about jalapeno peppers, they said " what kind of peppers? " . I said " chili peppers? " and they said - you guessed it! - " no, we wouldn't really do those " LOL. The people in these parts think it's very convenient that Safeway stays open until 8pm on Thursdays <G> (We're also in the middle of cow-country, so I can kinda see why they don't stock a lot of stuff that's specifically vegetarian, but still....) Anyway, looking forward to " meeting " everyone - anyone I know here already? (I'm all over the internet LOL) -- Deb
Guest guest
OMG! Your story is so funny. How do you manage? That line is classic: " no, we wouldn't really do that " . Thanks for joining us here... I am certain we will learn much from how you've learned to cope in such a rural location. I would imagine they wouldn't carry tofu either? *lol* Welcome to the feral veg, and thanks for the lovely intro. :::coffeemug salute::: ~ PT ~ The proof of a thing being right is that it has power over the heart; that it excites us, wins us, or helps us. ~ John Ruskin (1819-1900) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~~> , Deb <timpani_161@h...> wrote: > Hi all, > > I'm the newbie...Deb, mostly-vegetarian (long story), married to > omnivore, four kids, only one of whom is vegetarian, but I'm working > on it <G>.
