Hi, I'm 00goddess, and I've been a vegetarian for fifteen years. For most of

that time, I was a very strict vegetarian, but about two years ago I started

eating seafood, and I find that it's good for me. I only eat it occasionally,

so I still consider myself vegetarian- vegetarianism is, for me, very much a

lifestyle. Also, telling people that I am vegetarian is much easier than

explaining exactly what foods I do and do not eat. I won't talk about seafood

here, though, out of respect for the group.

For many years soy, especially tofu, was a staple of my diet. I even stopped

drinking dairy milk in favor of soy milk a few years ago. However, I have a

chronic illness, and I started to see some evidence that soy itself was making

me sick.

So, almost two months ago, I stopped eating soy. I didn't cut it out

altogether, but I have cut way down, and I've switched back to organic dairy

milk. I am feeling way better, and fat is just dropping off of my body, so I

think this was a good decision.

I am very interested in avoiding processed food as much as possible. I prefer a

slow-cooked meal to any fast food ever. I am interested in natural foods- for

instance, I am trying to find a local source for unpasteurized cow's milk.

My diet right now mostly consists of vegetables, wheat gluten, eggs, dairy, and

occasional seafood. I eat pasta and grains only sparingly, although I do really

like beans. My health condition requires that I eat somewhat high protein, so I

do. The past several months my house has been Omelet Central.

I love to cook, and I do so often. I am glad to have found this group and I

look forward to participating here!

Hi 00goddess! Welcome aboard. It's nice to have you with us. I use

to be a pescatarian (veggie who eats " seafood " or " sealife " ) as well

some years ago before switching to a lacto-ovo veggie.

Cheers,

S. :)

Hi! THanks for the warm welcome.

I used to be a lacto-ovo, for about ten years. Then I went just ovo-vegetarian-

I thought dairy was making me sick. T

I don't use the term pescetarian now, because technically, I eat more than just

fish, and fish aren't even the major part of my diet- they are an occasional

treat. A friend of mine calls me a vegaquarian :) I find that 'vegetarian', or

sometimes 'pesce-vegetarian', is the best descriptor for other people to

understand the way I eat- for instance, why there isn't meat in my house, or why

I won't eat it at their house, and why I prefer to eat at vegetarian restaurants

or those with vegetarian options.

I'm lucky that I live in a city with a lot of vegetarian food options (Houston

TX.) Lots of vegetarians complain about the difficulty in eating out, but I

find it's pretty easy.
