Hello all. Well, James and I have decided to leave beautiful Oregon.

My mom's health is not the best and I really want to be able to spend

good quality time with her before I can't. So, we're moving to Iowa!

Western Iowa to be precise. Now, I've done some research and know

that Wild Oats is in Omaha, NE; but there isn't one anywhere in Iowa,

not even Ames or Des Moines.

Is there anyone on this list, who lives in Iowa, who can tell me of

some alternative stores?

I've visited my folks enough times, that I'm familiar with their

grocery store; but I know we're not going to find everything.

I have felt blessed living in Portland, OR and being able to choose

any lifestyle and not have any problem with finding the right food. I

now have some fear around living in Iowa and still being able to buy

organic, non-gmo, vegetarian food.

I told James that we'll have to buy a freezer, take a trip once a

month to Omaha, and just stock up on everything.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

cheers,

Denise

I checked the websites of whole foods market and trader joes, neither

of which have locations in Iowa, sorry. those are the only other

chains I can think of. However, after googling, I found these two

health food stores in Des moines:

Campbells's Nutrition

4040 University Ave.

515-277-6351

New City Market Natural Grocery

4721 University Avenue

515-255-7380

here is a site that will help you find health food stores in other

iowa cities. I know they're probably more expensive than major

chains, but maybe if you just use them for a few hard to find things

it won't be so bad...

Aw, I am sorry to hear of your mom's poor health,

and that you will be leaving Oregon. Being closer

to family will be nice, and it is a wonderful thing you

are doing, moving to be near her when she needs you

more.

I know nothing about Iowa shopping as I have never

been there before. But if you go to Wild Oats in Omaha

on the weekends, you might just run into Gene Stewart

and his veggie clan on one of their shopping trips. *lol*

Thanks Dave, for the Happy Cow link. I also found this link during a

Google search. I have also since found some other helpful website,

such at the Iowa Organics Network. I love doing on line research, I

just thought I would shout out to this group to find out if there was

anyone in Iowa.

Who knows, maybe with the land we buy, I'll start up my own organic

farm. It's amazing how affordable land is. We're currently looking at

five acres with a beautiful house of more than 1600sf for $85K,

outbuilding included!

cheers,

Denise
