DH and I went to our local Indian Market the last week to pick up some

lentils and dried beans, spices, tahini, etc. and DH boasted to the

owner (a friend of his) that our whole family is vegetarian now! I was

so pleased that he actually seemed proud, LOL! I don’t know why I was

ever concerned about him adjusting, so far he has been wonderful and

very supportive!!!

Anyway, the market owner (also a vegetarian) suggested that we buy a

pressure cooker, and that was it. It was in my head.

So, I purchased a pressure cooker the other day – the Fagor™ Splendid

Pressure Cooker Multi Set. Laura or Melody, did you ever have a problem

with your yellow indicator button popping up? Mine seems to need a nudge

or poke before it goes up and closes the opening completely – or am I

inadvertently correcting a loose seal when I push down on the lid?

Anyway, so far I have managed with it and thoroughly enjoyed a vegetable

‘edam’ on Wednesday, a curried chick pea and carrot ‘edam’ yesterday for

lunch, and a great potato/cauliflower biriyani last night for dinner –

DH is out of town so I thought it would be good to practice so I can

impress him with my new purchase when he gets home – but when he sees a

biriyani that takes only 15 minutes from start to finish he will

definitely roll his eyes because I didn’t spend all day slaving in the

kitchen, LOL!!! I love it!!!

Also, a tip – if you have an Indian market nearby, stop in and pick up

some of the premixed spice packets they have! On Wednesday I fried some

onions in ghee, threw in some veggies (red potatoes, green beans, chick

peas, cauliflower) a can of tomato sauce, pinch of salt and about 2

tablespoons of a masala mix, and closed the pressure cooker. Ten minutes

later, ta’daa, a wonderfully, perfectly spiced edam! (Edam is the

general Arabic word for mixed vegetables, sorry, I use it a lot). It

really was as good as something I’d get in the expensive Indian

restaurant we have here! And for my peace of mind, vegan.

Now, what can I make tonight? LOL

Hi Lisa....Oh, those boxed masalas are great. They usually have them

divided (well where I shop) by types of meals (dals, bryanis, tikka,

kabob, etc). On the back, it conveniently lists the recipe...I love

it. Only one thing to beware...I believe " Shan " is the biggest

producer and exporter of those spice mixes. They tend to have msg

listed as an ingredient. If you or any others get headaches and

what-not then check those masala ingredients listings.

Anywho, I think those suckers are great and makes things so fast when

you need it. I can't even imagine using a pressure cooker on top of

that with the dals and rices and such and voila..presto, gourment in

minutes. :)

Congrats on your dh bragging about yalls diet...Too Cool!

Cheers,

Shawn

Lisa,

Great! I love mine and use it at least once a week. I don't have any

problems with my pop-up button. When it gets to pressure it doesn't

snap up, it slowly rises if that makes sense. Takes a few seconds. Are

you using a gas or electric burner? I have gas so high heat is

instantly high heat. I've seen that for electric stoves they recommend

sometimes that you get the burner to high before you start. If you have

to saute first, use a different burner for the medium heat and switch

to a ready burner on high when it's time to bring up the heat. Also,

adding boiling liquids instead of room temp or cold can bring the temp

up swifter. Don't know if that's the issue or not.
