Guest guest
It s always good to get back home, even though I love taking short trips to the ocean. I had a restaurant foible that I thought I would share. We went to dine at a small restaurant, not a vegetarian restaurant as we couldn't find any. I saw they had eggplant parmesan on the special of the day board, so I figured this would be a pretty safe bet. I ordered that, and when the waitress asked if I wanted the clam chowder or salad, I chose the salad. My dh was quick to remind me to remind the waitress not to put any bacon bits on it, if they typically did that sort of thing, and she assured me they didn't and only put croutons on the salad. *lol* Anyway, when my food arrived it looked really nice, but I took a bite and suddenly realized the tomato sauce the used to cover the breaded eggplant slices had ground meat in it! ACH! Who the heck puts ground beef in pasta sauce that goes over eggplant? Apparently they do, and they are obviously not Italian. *lol* I really have only myself to blame for not asking the waitress more details about the dish and just assuming it would be served in similar manner to other eggplant parmesan dishes I have ordered in other places. Guest guest
Welcome back PT! Sorry that restaurant bit happened to you PT. It definitely sounds Americanized....I bet they just have a big vat of that sauce and slush it on everything, lol. I'm not even so sure one can taste the ground beef in a tomato sauce...it's more than likely there as a reassuring sight to meatheads that there's meat somewhere on the plate, as sad as that is, lol. Take care, Shawn **giving props to your dh on the b-b reminder and concern** , " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll> wrote: > It s always good to get back home, even though > I love taking short trips to the ocean. > I had a restaurant foible that I thought I would share. > We went to dine at a small restaurant, not a vegetarian > restaurant as we couldn't find any. Guest guest
Yeah, I have never heard of using meat in the sauce on eggplant parm either, so it was a shocker. But I didn't send it back. I figured it was my fault for not telling her I was vegetarian and asking what was in it. I ate my salad, garlic bread, and scraped off all the sauce I could and ate the breaded eggplant parts that didn't seem too tainted by the sauce, the rest I left. I know some folks would have refused to eat any of it, but I am sort of old school and hate to waste food; still ended up watsing a good portion of it because I could not tolerate the parts that had sauce soaked in given that it had burger in it. *shudder, lol* Oh well, live and learn and next time I order that in a place other than the OLIVE GARDEN, I will certainly ask if it has meat in the sauce. ;P ~ PT ~ From this angle that looks a little bit like food. ~ " Monk " , " artichoke72x " < artichoke72x> wrote: > ewww! meat sauce on eggplant parmesan?? nasty! i > have never seen it served that way. did you send it > back? sorry that happened. i think the waitress > should have picked up on the no meat thing when she > was questioned about the bacon bits and said something > about the meat sauce....but perhaps i expect too much > from people. lol. > > susie
