Guest guest
A friend of mine is a vegetarian (of sorts). I wouldn't try to convince her out of it (because I used to be one!) but I would like to urge her that it would be a good idea to actually EAT vegetables. She's a veggie for PETA-related reasons (and I think she actually doesn't like the taste of meat regardless) but we rarely see her eat anything but dairy products and supplements. A dear friend of mine did this for years but it caught up with her eventually and caused a LOT of health problems that took a long time to get over. Sometimes my friend will eat beans, salsa, but I don't think she is getting enough of what she needs naturally. I know that if you take certain nutrients in pill form they can build up and have negative reactions as well so a dairy/supplement diet doesn't seem like a really good idea. As far as I know she does not have any allergies that would make eating veggies in their natural form an issue. Thoughts? Amanda
Guest guest
I know it is imprtant, no matter what your chosen dietary path is, to get your nutrients from actual food sources. Suppliments are just what they are called " suppliments " ...only good for adding to a diet that is already based on healthy eating. She should certainly try to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. ~ pt ~ Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~> , " Amanda " <yramanda> wrote: > A friend of mine is a vegetarian (of sorts). Guest guest
some people simply don't like vegetables. i know a lot of them. unfortunately, this leads to imbalanced diets, which generally cause health problems as time goes by. i usually recommend being " sneaky " with vegetables, so that they don't feel like vegetables. put broccolli and other veggies in pasta sauce, layer tons of leafy greens on sandwiches, puree a bunch of veggies and make soup. hope this helps... melody http://www.melodysmusic.net
Guest guest
You always make the best suggestions, Melody. I do some of those tricks to get my veggie-picky son to eat his daily 5+. Thankfully he loves fruit and I am an advocate of a daily multi-vitamin. He likes chili, too... so I will make a mean pot of veggie chili with finely diced veggies of all sorts sneaked (or is it snuck? *lol*) in it. ~ PT ~ Those who wish to sing always find a song. ~ Swedish proverb ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , nadiana1@a... wrote: > some people simply don't like vegetables. i know a lot of them. > unfortunately, this leads to imbalanced diets, which generally cause health problems as > time goes by. i usually recommend being " sneaky " with vegetables, so that > they don't feel like vegetables. put broccolli and other veggies in pasta > sauce, layer tons of leafy greens on sandwiches, puree a bunch of veggies and > make soup. > > hope this helps... > > melody
