I buy Yesterday's News at Petco, and I like the idea of using recycled paper. As for the cat food...cats are naturally carnivorous. Unlike us, their little bodies are perfectly designed to digest meat. There is such a thing as vegetarian cat food--that's at Petco, too--but take a look at this article from the Vegetarian Society UK, too. http://www.vegsoc.org/info/catfood.html Blessed be, Jayelle
Guest guest
I agree. Cats bodies are made to eat meat, with only a few vegetables occasionally. They are carnivores. It would be cruel to force vegetarianism on a cat; they aren't making a conscious choice to give up meat. Jayelle Wiggins <jayelle wrote: , " As for the cat food...cats are naturally carnivorous. Guest guest
Just wanted to say " Thank You " for all your replies. The cats are now eating regular cat food. When I get the chance I will print out the link(s)info on cats to show my friends who were encouraging me to turn the cats into full fledged vegetarians. Guest guest
Wow, with so many people raising their pets to be vegetarians, it never even occured to me to realise they [the pets]were being forced into a lifestyle not suited to there health. I stand corrected. This also brings me to another question. What about people who need meat in order to not feel weak and dizzy? I know some people who are that way. If they do not eat at least a serving of meat, they get weak, dizzy and irritable. Also there is a book called " Food for your blood type " which states certain blood types [type 0?]need meat. I'm Type A, which according to the book says veggies and fruits are best for me. StarLady , reptile grrl <reptilegoddess> wrote: > I agree. Guest guest
You say that they become weak & dizzy " If they do not eat at least a serving of meat. " A serving of meat, how often? Daily? Weekly? I can think of a couple of things which would contribute to this sort of condition. The first one is anemia, an iron deficiency. Without enough iron, your body can't make enough red blood cells. Those are the cells which carry oxygen to the rest of your body. So, when one becomes iron deficient, one also becomes oxygen deficient. This can lead to dizziness, weakness, lethargy, and even cognitive problems. Anemia can be remedied by eating more iron-rich foods, such as dark leafy greens, eggs, and beans, and by taking an iron supplement. Another thing is protein. Protein is very important for the formation of neurotransmitters. If someone is protein deficient, their neurotransmitters can become extremely out of whack. This is why children who grow up with protein-poor diets regularly do badly in school: their brains are not being nourished. They literally can't think very well. This can be remedied by eating high-protein foods, such as legumes, eggs, and dairy. The other anser is that such people may be simply having a somatic reaction. Oh, and I think that the blood type thing is a bunch of bunk, and so do the nutritionists I have spoken with. There are so, so many variables between people other than blood type- genetic markers, lifestyle, etc. Blood type is not a good determinant of how people should eat. Guest guest
I am type O and know that I feel much better when I do not eat meat. In fact I am not sure if iti is stuff they inject in it or the meat itself but I have noticed that I am extremely tired for the 24-48 hours after eating any beef. Started noticing it with one certain restaurant about five years ago. THought it was isolated to them. But over several years it has been consistent with any beef that I get extremely tired after eating the beef. So I know this Type O blood type person does not need meat to not feel weak - just the opposite. - StarLadyAstara Friday, May 07, 2004 3:51 AM Re: looking for meat/cruelty free cat food in the St. Louis, Mo area Wow, with so many people raising their pets to be vegetarians, it never even occured to me to realise they [the pets]were being forced into a lifestyle not suited to there health. Guest guest
I have a hard time believing that people need meat, there are many foods that have the same proteins and nutrients that would work just as well for those ppl. I have hypoglysemia, get the shakes, feel dizzy, fatigued and cranky if I don't eat properly every day. It's a matter of knowing what it is that a certain body requires then finding the right foods to fill that gap, but it can be done without meat!
