Guest guest
Here's another thing I have to rave about : Actimel. " Actimel " is Flemish for " active milk. " They just changed the name to " Danactive " in the US, I guess because Actimel is a scary forrin; name. Anyway, Danactive is milk with live cultures. Danactive is basically a sort of proprietary keffir- it's a cultured milk. The difference between Danacitve and ordinary keffir is that some of the cultured bacteria are patented, proprietary cultures. They've been proven to survive digestion and live on in the intestines. Also, some clinical trials were done that concluded that Danactive/Actimel strengthens the immune system. I live with imunosuppression, and I'll be honest with you: I haven't noticed any strengthening of my system when I drink Actimel. However, I have noticed that when I drink it, I have a much easier time digesting milk. And it is very yummy! I was turned onto Actimel by a friend in Boston who told me that it helpes her through a period of anxiety-related stomach problems. I am sure that most of you know that it's a good idea to eat active cultures- they are vital to our systems in many ways. If you don't like yogurt you might like Actimel better. I only like full-fat yogurt, and eating that every day isn't healthy, but Actimel is low in fat, and most of the sugars added are actually digested by the cultures themselves. Guest guest
i'm a big fan of danactive too! the vanilla flavor it so yummy (although very sweet). my 4 year old son loves it! he drinks one a day. i think it has helped his immune system.....he got a cold this week and it only lasted a day and a half (instead of the usual 5-7 days)! i think probiotics are very important and i'm thrilled that i found a way to get some into him. susie --- reptile grrl <reptilegoddess wrote: > Here's another thing I have to rave about : Actimel. > > " Actimel " is Flemish for " active milk. Guest guest
I think probiotics are great too, and I think that things like Actimel and yogurt are way better than taking a pill- most of the cultures in pills aren't even live! I have been doing a lot of research on probiotics lately and it seems that they are very important to our health. I know that drinking Actimel has been good for me at least digestively speaking. Apparently there are a lot of probiotic drinks available in Europe. Stonyfield Farms has a new yogurt-fruit smoothie drink out in the US but I haven't tried it yet. Guest guest
I'm not sure about any vegan probiotics. I don't even know how soy yogurt is made You can purchase vegan acidophilus pills, but they are notoriously inconsistent. Do you take a multivitamin? Guest guest
Believe it's similar to the dairy version in that you take soy milk and culture it. I was unfortunately unsuccessful recreating one yogurt recipe with the soy equivalent, but the fruit-flavored soy yogurts are identical to or imho better than (less slimy in a way than) the dairy versions. , reptile grrl <reptilegoddess> wrote: > I'm not sure about any vegan probiotics.
