Guest guest
I just recently found out about this soy product (seems similar to tofu) called tempeh. A webpage that I found with some good info is http://www.tempeh.info/ I'm thinking about either buying or making some starter on my own, but has anyone here had any experience with making their own tempeh? Guest guest
Tempeh really isn't similar to tofu, not in texture or in taste. I recommend that you buy some and see if you like it, before you commit to making your own. Just my .02. Guest guest
can't say i've ever made my own-- i imagine it's a long process, since it's fermented. i do love tempeh in sweet and sour dishes, though-- it works great with pineapple and soy sauce. tempeh is one of those foods that people seem to either love or hate; it's got a strong, " cheesy " taste. if you like it, though, it's very good for you! http://www.flawlessfitness.com http://www.melodysmusic.net
Guest guest
I used to really like tempeh, but somehow I lost the taste for it. Isn't it funny how that happens? nadiana1 wrote:can't say i've ever made my own-- i imagine it's a long process, since it's fermented. i do love tempeh in sweet and sour dishes, though-- it works great with pineapple and soy sauce. tempeh is one of those foods that people seem to either love or hate; it's got a strong, " cheesy " taste. if you like it, though, it's very good for you! http://www.flawlessfitness.com http://www.melodysmusic.net
Guest guest
I marinade it in teriyaki and dice it in cubes and mix in with my pad Thai meals or stir fry it with mushrooms and teriyaki sauce and put on rice. reptile grrl <reptilegoddess wrote:I used to really like tempeh, but somehow I lost the taste for it. Guest guest
I like tempeh alot but we use tofu the most, still like most die hard vegetarians I use all beans and veggies and am quite a slave " Alone " in my kitchen, though my son loves it on the table. , Hi there <thelilacflower> wrote: > I marinade it in teriyaki and dice it in cubes and mix in with my pad Thai meals or stir fry it with mushrooms and teriyaki sauce and put on rice. > > reptile grrl <reptilegoddess> wrote:I used to really like tempeh, but somehow I lost the taste for it. Guest guest
That sounds really good, and i have never tried tempeh before. *lol* With all this recent talk about it i am gong to have to try some. i have seen it in a store locally. Can anyone recommend a good brand? ~ pt ~ " Dining with one's friends and beloved family is certainly one of life's primal and most innocent delights, one that is both soul-satisfying and eternal. Guest guest
there's never the same brand in all stores since it doesn't appeal to the masses. Any one will work since it's compressed and chewy. It grills well, marinades great. I have grilled it on my indoor mini george Forman grill. I make a grilled portobello mushroom and tempeh sandwich with a slice of onion. I've been a vegetarian for 25 yrs now. ~ PT ~ <patchouli_troll wrote: That sounds really good, and i have never tried tempeh before. *lol* With all this recent talk about it i am gong to have to try some. i have seen it in a store locally. Guest guest
Really? Not one mass distributor or manufacturer of tempeh such as MSF, Yves or the like? Hm. Interesting. Well, let me put it this way then... Are there any brands i need to avoid or are they all pretty much the same [aka delicious]? i will likely be the only one eating tempeh in my house and i don't want to waste my money if i can help it. BTW, i like your sandwich idea. Thanks! Guest guest
Try the first brand you see. It's all made basically the same. It's the marinade or grilling that really brings out the flavor. ~ PT ~ <patchouli_troll wrote:Really? Not one mass distributor or manufacturer of tempeh such as MSF, Yves or the like? Hm.
