I always thought being vegetarian one went for the whole grains? I

am a brown rice fan but others sometimes make me make white rice.

Are most you vegetarians whole grains people? it seems it varies

greatly in this group.

I always thought being a vegetarian meant not eating

meat :)

Different vegetarians like different things. I don't

like brussel sprouts.

I like brown rice, and I know it has more nutrients,

so that's what I usually cook. If I am in a hurry,

though, I'll cook white rice, because it's faster. If

I am offered a choice between the two at a restaurant,

I go with brown, but if not, I eat the white rice

served to me.

I don't eat a lot of grains in general. I do eat

bread sometimes. The kind of bread depends upon my

mood and upon what I'm eating it with. So sometimes

I;'ll buy a really grainy bread, and sometimes I'll

buy something smooth like potato bread.

I've yet to find a whole-wheat pasta that I like. :/

i like them both! :)

For sushi [veggie of course] i like white Calrose

or a short grain style white rice. If i am having

stir-fry or pretty much anything else that calls

for rice i will use brown; again i prefer a short

grain brown rice which i find sold in bulk bins at

a healthfood section of my favorite store.

I'm vegan but I do use calrose short grain white rice as well as jasmine, and

basmati rice. Brown rice I use more of for pilaf dishes. I eat all beans and

grains but I see nothing wrong with white rice now and then. When I make my

favorite recipe called Mexican rice, usually basmati white rice works the best.

Whole grains are not a necessary requirement of a diet in order to be

considered vegetarian. I personally prefer them, for health reasons,

but I’m not fanatical about it. I like brown rice, but I also eat white

rice on occasion, especially jasmine rice and basmati rice.

Lots of people are vegetarian for moral reasons, and as far as I know,

there’s no moral reason why brown rice would be better than white.

Dear vegetarians I tried to sent letter to all members but it was not sent by

the computer so I am sending it through you:

I am an Indian and my family is vegetarian since ancient times.

I suggest that rice may be used with spiced vegetables. I am giving

characterstics of some spices.

1, Ginger; Known as Adrak in India. Troughout Asia ginger has reputation of

being powerful aphrodisiac. Indian literature recommonds a mixture of ginger

juice, honey and milk , taken at night before going to bed for a month, as a

reamdy against impotence. It can be used in vegetable cooking, in rice and while

boiling water for tea. It works against cold.

Cardomom: powdered elaichi (Cardomom) seed boiled with milk, and a spooneful of

honey are supposed to be an excellent remedy against impotance and premature

ejaculation. But excessive use could lead to impotancy. If you think that it is

possible to send the message to all you may do it.

Readymade spices for vegetables, and ready to eat packed vegetables are also

availabe.

a tip about white rice, if that's what you prefer, look for basmati or

long-grain white rice, and not the instant minu-crap out there. long-grain

has more nutrients than quick-cook rice.

Couldn't agree more. I used to only use basmati for

Indian food (figures, right?) - and we do eat that a

lot. But one time I was visiting my son's home (he's

overseas, so it's not a weekly occurrence ;=)) and he

was cooking something or other (probably a stirfry)

and waved basmati rice at me and said he *always* uses

it. Well I don't *always* use it, but pretty nearly

now. (One can also get brown basmati rice, pretty well

unknown in India, I understand - ours comes from you

guessed it California ;=) Great flavour. Good

nutrition - but it takes longer to cook of course.)

I'm all for combining nutrition with gourmet dining!!!

*lol*

Best,

Pat ;=)
