Guest guest
These are great. We had potluck at church this afternoon. I got up early this morning and made this, but cut them a bit shorter than hot dog length, so they would go further and I used Bakon- a hickory smoked powdered seasoning for the BBQ flavoring in the marinade. I did like you did Cherie, and added some BBQ sauce over them, before baking them. Folks really enjoyed them. They were a very unique addition to the meal. Thanks Cherie for this recipe. It is a keeper. Judy - Cherie Friday, July 10, 2009 8:41 PM Carrot hotdogs We had these for dinner tonight and they were fabulous. Carrot Dogs Peel 2 pounds of carrots, cut into hotdog lengths, drop into boiling water for about 7 minutes. Remove and cool. Marinade: 2c water 2t garlic powder 2t onion powder 2t basil 1/2t bbq seasoning, such as Mrs. Dash Mesquite flavor 2Tbsp peanut butter 1t sugar 1t salt 1/2t celery salt combine all marinade ingredients and marinate carrots for at least 2 hours more is better. Place on oiled baking sheet and bake at 350 until tender, or grill on bbq until tender. I coated mine in bbq sauce and a little olive oil before grilling. Guest guest
No problem Judy, my grandparents are here visiting and they still eat a little bit of meat, they were astonished at how much they tasted like hotdogs off the grill. I will definitely be making these again. They are alot cheaper to make than the veggie dogs at the store too. I have not really liked the ones in the store anyway. Guest guest
Wow, these are awesome and really surprising. Carl came home from Sam's Club with a huge 5 pound bag of carrots and I made a test batch. I'm wondering now if they freeze well. Gotta love stealth veggies, especially these. Let's see, zero fat, low calories, zero cholesterol and cheap. My kind of tummy filler. They look cute cut in half, with nori faces and stood upright next to a container of slaw in my lunch box. I'm betting that a generous slice of the carrot dog would be divine in the center of an onigiri. To totally Americanize the onigiri with carrot dog, I could put a little barbecue sauce on my hands before forming the onigiri and filling the sauce cup with BBQ sauce. Yummy!
