Hi Everyone! I've been a vegetarian for 18 years and

tonight my omnivore (his Mom served veal for

Christmas!) husband of 5 years came home and told me

that he wants to be a vegetarian. We have a 13 month

old son who I'm raising vegetarian and I'm so excited!

He said that he thinks he might have trouble when he's

on the road, " starving " , and the only thing to eat is

Wendy's or McDonald's. He (or I) will pack a snack in

order to avoid this problem. Anyway, I just feel

elated, like one person (ME!) can quietly (ok,

sometimes not so quietly) influence others to move

toward kindness and compassion. I'll keep ya'll

updated on his progress but for now I'm enjoying a

" vegetarian victory " !!

-Jenn

PS Any snack ideas are appreciated!!

That IS awesome!

I run into the fast food restaurant problem now and then. Its tough to find

a good, filling veg meal when you're in a pinch. I try to keep my order to

salads and french fries... only as a last ditch option. Sometimes I can

convince a place to make me a meatless version of one of the sandwiches. I

get some funny looks, but its more filling than a limp salad and greasy

fries.

Its fun when people start following after you. My mom recently decided to

start dropping red meats and dairy out of her diet. For my mom, this is a

HUGE step. She said her reasoning is that she sees how much better I look

and act when I'm eating veg... and she wants that too.

A lot of BKs serve (ok, hand out) veggie burgers. :) Not ideal, but

it'll work :)

my fave food is sushi, every sushi joint has veggie rolls.

Anyhow, that's great!! My hubby decided to go veg with me a few months

ago and it lasted whole week though. I didnt comment on him reverting,

but he knows if he wants meat he has to cook, so he eats vegetarian 6

days a week anyhow!

Rocky Mountain High Tonya,

You know how easy it is now to carry along that bottled water with

you where ever you go? When I am rushed for time I do this. I Keep a

bag packed with *good for you stuff* and leave it in the car. When I

grab that bottle of water I make a quick sandwhich with my favorite

filling. Then I drive to the park, passing up those fast food places,

and dine on my *good for you stuff* while listening to some great

music or a book on tape ..It's like having a picnic.

Sending smiles and hugs your way. Deanna

That is so great to hear!! There are several books out there on the

subject of eating out as a veg*n that might help your husband (first

one that comes to mind is Meatless Meals for Working People.) It

helps to hear stories like yours as I attempt to transition my omni

kids into a veg diet.

Congrats!
