Guest guest
Good Morning, all. I was curious. What types of vitamins and supplements, if any, does anyone take? Are there any deficiency concerns that vegetarians/vegans should be aware of? Thanks in advance! Guest guest
Christiane, I stopped taking a multi-vitamin when I decided that my diet was pretty much complete and that vitamins are expensive and synthetic. There is controversy about the B vitamins as to whether a Vegetarian gets those which mostly are found in animal flesh. What I am reading now tells me that is not so. A few years back a blood test showed that I was low in potassium ..The doctor was wonderful he said to me " eat a banana " . I now on occasion take a sublingual Vegetarian B12, acidophilus maybe once a month because I do not eat yogart and a zinc tablet if I feel like a cold might be coming on or if I am exposed to someone who is ill. I have a wonderful book all about natural food vitamins and I reference it often. I learn something new every day and in this group it is fun..By the way I bought my first bottle of organic capers yesterday. I felt like they were a bit of a luxury so had not bought them in the past. Can't wait to try them.. Guest guest
I agree Deanna, I will still take a multivitamin maybe once per month, just in case I am wrong, LOL. But I look at my diet and I know I am getting all the vitamins. have you tried using the nutritional yeast flakes for the b-12? Guest guest
I take a multi-vitamin and an antioxidant from Dr. Weil.com...I also take astragalus and an Emer-Gen-C pack every other day or so for immunity. I know they say vegans need to be careful to get enough B vit, specifically B12 which you can get in a multi. vit. or, nutritional yeast. As far as vegetarians who eat some dairy and a balance veg diet, I don't think you need to worry much about deficiencies. melissa p
Guest guest
I been taking Solgar Formula VM-75. I think I got the idea from someone in here and found it at the health store. I also take the Emer-gen-c in water. I don't have much time during the week to cook and I'm still learning how to make myself vegetarian dinners instead of the frozen veggie burgers but I do have to use those for dinners alot. Guest guest
When I remember to take a vitamin I take Rainbow Light " Just Once " and this is the web address www.rainbowlight.com I get sick to my stomach from all other vitamins and so far so good with this brand. I buy them from Whole Foods. I also use Emer'Gen-C packets now and then and make sure I keep them on hand if I feel a cold coming on. I occasionally use Braggs amino liquid on my rice and I have some sublingual B-12 as the doctor says this is the only sure way B-12 will absorb into your system immediately unless you want a shot of B12. I use nutritional yeast and we have several recipes in the files calling for it. It's also tasty sprinkled on top of popcorn, rice, etc. Donna --- PuterWitch <puterwitch wrote: > I agree Deanna, > I will still take a multivitamin maybe once per > month, just in case I am wrong, LOL. Guest guest
Paul, slow and steady wins the race. You are doing so well, and I can see that you are concerned about your family's health as well as your own. You may not only be helping yourself, but future generations as well. I think you rock. (that being said do not respond by the usual pawing of me, simple flowers and a beer will do) hugs, Chanda OK, a marguerita and a dandelion would even be better. I'll be right there. - paulvatoloco Thursday, February 09, 2006 9:25 AM Re: Vitamins, Supplements, Etc. I been taking Solgar Formula VM-75.
