I don't have the cookbook, and am not even entirely sure of the name, but it was a " Mennonite Community Cookbook " that an officemate had, back when I lived in DC. I begged the recipe from her. Mennonite Sugar Cookies 1 c shortening 2 c sugar (granulated, light brown, or a mix) 2 eggs ~5 c flour 1 tsp salt 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1/4 c milk 1 tsp vanilla Cream shortening and sugar (use half butter for flavor if desired). Add vanilla. Add eggs and beat until fluffy. Sift flour. Combine dry ingredients in separate bowl. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, to egg mixture. Stir til dough is smooth. Chill in fridge several hours. Roll to 1/4 " thickness. Place 1 " apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400*F for 8 - 10 minutes. Makes about 6 dozen. Guest guest
Try my Tennessee Teacakes!! My husband doesn't like normal sugar cookies, but he loves my Teacakes. We at one time were going to start a cookie business solely on my teacakes...we were urged to do so...but we never could afford the startup. So now I just share the recipe and the love associated therewith. :>) Bron
