Guest guest
Today I made the best Taco Chips I have ever tasted and I was trying to make crackers. LOL...Well my experiment turned out great but I didn't measure a thing so can't pass it on. I used instant Masa with garlic, onion powder and basil. They are crispy and delicious..Now if I can just remember how I made them. Drinking another cup of *green tea*. Sending smiles and hugs your way Deanna

Guest guest
Shelly, I like these *taco chips* better than any store bought I have ever tasted . If you are a semi- experienced baker you will figure this out easily. I am sorry that I did not measure but just wanted to experiment making some cracker recipes. I used apx. 2 heaping cups of instant Masa flower. To the flower I added apx. 1/2 teas. of garlic powder, 1/2 teas. of oinion powder , 1/2 teas. basil and 1/2 teas.dill weed. I cut in apx. 1/2 cup of vegetable shortning until the dry mix resembled small peas.(next time I will try a veg.margarine or butter) I then slowly added apx.1 cup of water until the flour mix formed a soft ball. I then flattened it out by hand on my baking stone which I had lightly brushed with olive oil and salted the tops with sea salt. I scored it with a table knife into desired squares and baked at 350 degrees until light brown. The chips are crispy and hold their shape and texture for dipping. I now want to try using differnt herbs such a cumin, cilantro and pepper flakes. I will carefully measure the next batch. Can't wait to serve these to friends and see their reaction to the herb flavored chips. Sending smiles and hugs your way Deanna In , " Shelly " <anislandgirl wrote: > > Can you pass on basic directions? Guest guest
Hi Deanna I am very keen to try this recipe. I already have a package of Masa Harina which I pounced on when I came across it in the international food section in the supermarket a couple of months ago and then when I got it home couldn't remember the recipe I was going to make with it. However, mine doesn't say that it's instant. The ingredients are corn and calcium hydroxide. It gives a recipe for tortillas so I'm guessing that it would be ok for making these chips. Does anyone have any other ideas for using masa harina, or is it mostly just used for tortillas? TIA Christie , " genny_y2k " <genny_y2k wrote: > > Shelly, > I like these *taco chips* better than any store bought I have ever > tasted . Guest guest
Christie, <Make Tamales . I did for the first time last month and they were delicious. My bigest problem was getting the right size steamer . You can buy a huge pkg. of corn husks in the produce section of your super market. I bought mine at Walmart. I made a filling of rice, and mushrooms and it was great. I have my recipes if you need them. Deanna , " christie_0131 " <christie0131 wrote: > > Hi Deanna > I am very keen to try this recipe. Guest guest
Hi Deanna I am in Scotland and sadly we don't find such exotic ingredients in the supermarket. I was completely stunned to discover the masa harina. Bless you for the offer of your recipes, though. Christie , " genny_y2k " <genny_y2k wrote: > > Christie, > <Make Tamales . Guest guest
could baking parchament paper or butcher's paper be used in place of the corn husks for tamales? --- christie_0131 <christie0131 wrote: > Hi Deanna > I am in Scotland and sadly we don't find such exotic > ingredients in > the supermarket.
