Guest guest
I saw these today at the farmer's market! Fried dill pickles and jalapeno nacho rings. DH and I were intrigued so we went to the store and quickly bought a bunch of stuff we also thought might be good battered and fried. The frickles & fraps were really good (the frickles - especially with mustard) We also fried black olives (plain and stuffed with jalapenos), pepperoncinis, and asparagus. It was an interesting experiment but now I don't want anything fried for at least a year! LOL Shelly
Guest guest
Shelly, If that isn't the cutest name (Frickles and Fraps) I have ever seen..I can't wait to experiment making them but hope I can devise a way to do it in the oven so as not to use the frying method. Sending smiles and hugs your way Deanna , " Shelly " <anislandgirl wrote: > > I saw these today at the farmer's market! Guest guest
I use my iron skillet and fry cucumber slices and also stuffed olives. They really are good, I don't do it often but every now and then I get that urge. Guest guest
Deanna, There are several recipes on the internet for the frickles. I bet if you dipped them in mustard and then a flour/corn meal mix they'd bake up nice. Can't wait to hear if they work baked! Guest guest
Isn't that fried asparagus just divine? One of the vendors at our farmers' market makes and sells fried asparagus on Tuesdays. Late last year they added some other veggies. I have a deep fryer in which I use Hains cold-pressed peanut oil, so at least it's a healthy oil. But I need to lose weight, not gain it, so I don't dare use it too much. (Love them beer batter deepfried onion rings, though! Ditto the deepfried tofu.) Guest guest
How do you do deep fried tofu? Is the fried asparagus fried or deep fat fried? I steam my asparagus briefly and cut it up into 1' slices and then fry them in vegan margarine on top of the stove with pepper and it is to die for so wondering if that is what you mean or deep fat fried. Is that the Eugene market....they have a Tuesday market as well as the Saturday market. If it is down there where you live you will have to tell me more about it. linda " Sherry Rose " <sherry > Isn't that fried asparagus just divine? Guest guest
Yum! i like to fry veggies sometimes in a tempura batter. What sort of batter did you use? Did you serve with any special dipping sauces? ~ pt ~ If God created us in his own image, we have more than reciprocated. ~ Voltaire, philosopher (1694-1778) ~~~*~~~*~~~> , " Shelly " <anislandgirl wrote: > > I saw these today at the farmer's market! Guest guest
Deep frying tofu: cube or cube then shake with cornstarch, then deepfry in oil 350 to 375 degrees. Same with asparagus stalks after breading or dipping in batter. Yup, Eugene farmers' market, the booth where they sell the delicious salsas.
