Guest guest
http://vegweb.com/recipes/burritos/tamales1.shtml I was wondering the same thing. I found this site. Look down where a message from " LFLNO1 wrote, stating you can use parchment paper instead of husks. I know I have used banana leaves but I;m sure those are not availale in most places, especially in Scotland LOL Donna --- Angela <angelaamy2001 wrote: > could baking parchament paper or butcher's paper be > used in place of the corn husks for tamales? > > --- christie_0131 <christie0131 wrote: > > > Hi Deanna > > I am in Scotland and sadly we don't find such > exotic > > ingredients in > > the supermarket. Sounds like I'd better add parchment paper and more masa harina to my shopping list, LOL Christie
Guest guest
My Mexican cookbook shows the tamales made using corn husks, parchment paper or foil. I don't use aluminum foil but have eaten tamales made in foil and they were very good. I like the parchment paper idea too but the tamales look wonderful wrapped in the corn husk bundles. Such fun to make Smiles and hugs Deanna , " christie_0131 " <
Guest guest
Christie, I am picturing you at the Botanic Gardens asking for banana leaves so you can make tamales..LOL Or God forbid, climbing the tree and fetching some.. I had thought about waiting until harvest season to get local fresh corn husks but could not wait. If it wouldn't cost a whole arm and a leg I would send some to you. The thought of sending corn husks to Scotland is just too funny. It took me months of looking in thrift stores and going to yard sales to find just the right pot for steaming. My Hispanic friend told me that the tamales must be steamed *standing upright*.. Well my tamales layed flat in the steamer and they were great. Now that I have confidence in making them I plan to make more and invite guests. Something about unwrapping those little bundles that is so different . Like the feeling when one creates a loaf of fresh bread. Sending smiles and hugs your way Deanna , " christie_0131 " <christie0131 wrote: > > , Donnalilacflower > <thelilacflower@> wrote: > > > > http://vegweb.com/recipes/burritos/tamales1.shtml > > > > I was wondering the same thing.
