" Eating Goober Peas " is a Civil War era song. Lots of folk songs have food

references. I think Allan Sherman had some food songs.

Food Songs

For the last 20 years or so, I've been collecting songs about food, and

I play them on my weekend marathon cooking sessions. Once mp3s were

invented, my 90 minute mix tape became 40 hours of CDs!! One area that I

am severely lacking, is children's music. I was reminded of this a

couple of weeks ago on the Today Show, some blonde woman was singing a

song about Freddy's Spaghetti, but I had to leave for work before the

segment aired, and I didn't even catch her name.

If anyone has suggestions about food songs, not limited to children's

music, I'd love to hear them.

I haven't read all the food song posts as my DH crashed my computer, but

does anyone know 'the banana song' by Jim Gill? He is a seriously funny guy,

great kids tunes that even adults love.

The Banana Song

Bananas are my favorite food to eat

Bananas, bananas, bananas

They're soft and yellow and I think they look pretty neat

Bananas, bananas, bananas

I'd have to say they're my favorite after school treat

Bananas, bananas, bananas

Bananas are my favorite fruit (food?) to eat

Bananas, bananas, bananas

My 3 1/2 year old is singing it for me as I type it. There's more to the

song, but I don't remember it all.

Check out jimgill.com, you can probably hear a clip. His singing is way

better than mine! AmyF

Alan Sherman has GREAT food songs, including Hungarian Goulas, and Why I Got Fat

(he was helping the poor people in europe after WWII by finishing his plate, 3,

4 5 times!) Weird Al also has a huge collection of food songs, so I guess

comedy and food must go hand-in-hand.

I think there may be more songs about bananas than anything else except ice

cream, and yet I've never heard that one. Thanks for the tip. Bananas in

Pajamas is my favorite.
