Guest guest
Hello all, Does anyone have a good homemade recipe for vegan " sausage " ? My 9 year old wants to have a pizza sleep over and one of the boys loves sausage on his pizza but I refuse to buy or cook the " real " stuff. I thought about buying some but I'm trying to save money right now since things are a little tight. Thanks Christine
Guest guest
Chances are he won't like it anyway (kids are very picky as you know). I'd just go with the other toppings he does like. He is supposed to be coming to have fun with your son not just for the food anyway. Guest guest
i know a pretty good vegan pepperoni recipe. It is in the vegan vittles cookbook. I feel a little funny about posting it being that it is copy written. The recipe is fairy easy, but it is pretty tame on the spices, so i add extra. If you are interested email me and i will give it to you privately. If you make this one make sure to spray the slices with olive oil, that helps it to be more like the meat based version of pepperoni. I have used this on pizza, very thinly sliced. It is pretty good. Gimme lean would be better though. It is not all that expensive, it is like $3-$4 and it is a lot less labor intensive. As far as pizza goes, mine has turned out better when i stopped trying to mimic the mainstream versions. I now use homemade dough, marinara sauce, portabellos, juicy tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, etc. It turns out delicious. Sometimes i use vegan cheese, but i find it is not necessary because the sauce is so dang good. I hope this helps. ~Shelly christinepensa <christinepensa wrote: Hello all, Does anyone have a good homemade recipe for vegan " sausage " ? Guest guest
Shelly, I have vegan vittles cookbook and I will look it up. I personally don't care for the mainstream pizza either. I absolutely love spinach and portabello mushroom pizza no cheese and lots of garlic. But my son and his friends like the typical pizza so I will try the recipe. I have a couple dough recipes that I like, but the boys want it to taste like Pizza Hut so I will keep trying. Thanks! Christine shelly <joychild72 wrote: i know a pretty good vegan pepperoni recipe. Guest guest
Thank you very much. It does look good. And the best part is that I have everything I need to make it. I bet it would be good with biscuits and gravy too. My omnivore husband loves sausage gravy and biscuits. I will also try it on pizza and let you know how it went. Thanks again Christine Angel <angel_page wrote: Hey Christine, Here's a vegetarian sausage 'crumble' recipe I have...it's super yummy and I'll bet it would be good on pizza, though I haven't tried it,(yet). Guest guest
That sounds pretty good. It has to be better than the pre-made vege sausage! That is just one product that I haven't been able to appreciate yet! I can't wait to try your recipe, especially on pizza. My kids are VERY picky but the one thing that they always will eat is pizza! -Heather Christine Pensa <christinepensa wrote: Thank you very much. It does look good.
