Guest guest
Karyn, how about gel fruit cups (there are some vegan varieties out there)? Still sugar but maybe not as much. For " treats " you could do an easy craft like making crowns. Each kid gets a kit with the paper crown, a glue stick and decorating items, then they can make them and wear them. Your daughter's should be extra special, since she is the birthday princess! On Behalf Of Karyn Wednesday, March 01, 2006 10:34 AM RE: birthday party goodies The problem I have is she goes to a Jewish preschool, so the food has to be bought from a Kosher store. Are there any non food ideas?? :)K On Behalf Of Tracy Childs Wednesday, March 01, 2006 10:00 AM Re: birthday party goodies At that age, I used to make wheat germ muffins with chocolate chips and all of the kids in the class loved them. I did use white unbleached flour, but snuck in wheat germ to make them semi-healthy. I got the recipe from " The New Farm Cookbook " . It's called Bran Muffins, but you can use wheat germ instead. Of course now that my kids are older (10 and 15) their classmates might turn their nose up to something healthy and my kids want a major treat on their bday, so I make Wacky Cake cupcakes. Not so healthy. I still make the muffins at other times, though, and I use whole wheat pastry flour. Actually, you could probably get away with using this with the 4 year olds. Guest guest
Hi everyone, What non food or healthy food ideas do you have to bring into my daughter's classroom. She is turning 4 this friday. I don't want to add to the sugar rush, especially if she is having her party the next day. Thanks! Karyn

Guest guest
How about some stickers? maybe some sidewalk chalk to use at home. One year we gave 2 pieces of sidewalk chalk and went online and printed out game rules like hopscotch, 4 square etc... to be included on in the party bag We also gave a couple balloons and a pencil. Guest guest
My 4-year-old son loves pencils. At valentine's day I bought a package of shiny valentines pencils for him to give out. Or maybe little notepads? A lot of the 4-year-olds I know love small treasures like that. Guest guest
Just a reminder that a kosher store may well have items with " kosher " gelatin, which is NOT veg*n. Maybe you could get challah dough and have the kids make mini breads as the activity/treat. All you need is a toaster oven. They bake quickly because they're each a tiny amount of dough. Guest guest
I know this is late, but giving out stickers and erasers or pencils or ever stampers is always popular. I don't know if fruit would work, since you may need to have " special " utensils for a kosher meal. If it would be okay, you could try fruit kabobs - strawberries, kiwi and melon balls on skewers (with the points cut off for serving). We've used both fruit and school-type treats to combat leaving this child out.
