Guest guest
Hi all! Anyone out there Vegan with allergies? My son is showing signs of allergies from wheat and soy. It is very frustrating for all of us trying to figure out if there are any other allergies...it gets to a point when you are nervous to feed him anything. I am also nursing him so I have elminated these things from my diet as well. I am looking for a vegan soy free butter. Any words of advice or anyone out there in the same situation? Thanks, Becky

Guest guest
My 2 cents? Like most people, I've got a couple minor allergies and I suppose my kids do too, but when I was in the third grade or thereabouts I knew a couple kids, and my father did too, whose parents were forever taking them to the allergist and worrying over them and testing them and carrying on. They both had a list of allergies as long as your arm and were often out of school for weeks at a time. My father felt any allergies we six kids had we'd probably grow out of, so never mentioned the word " allergy " . We had a few minor " colds " from time to time and still do, but they last a few days and pass. My advice? If your kids have truly serious allergies, they won't be showing " signs " , you'll know it without question. Try to avoid the foods they seem to have problems with, but don't worry about it. The more you make of it, the bigger problem it will become. ~DJ > Hi all! > Anyone out there Vegan with allergies? My son is showing signs of allergies from wheat and soy. Guest guest
I am not allergic to wheat or soy, but I have an intolerance to them, so they are limited in my diet. I would recommend the Food Allergy Cookbook by Jo Stepaniak; it's vegan but also avoids all common allergens, like wheat, soy and corn. We love it! Good luck, Marla > My 2 cents? Guest guest
It is possible to have hidden food allergies. I am allergic to dairy but ate it all my life. As I got older the symptoms got stronger. I had constant sinus headaches and my asthma was terrible. When I gave up dairy all of that went away. I do occasionally have dairy but I can tell right away, the difference in my body. If you keep eating it you have nothing to compare to. Hives and respiratory problems are symptoms of allergies rather than intolerances. Guest guest
DJ's common sense approach makes a lot of sense. I would just like to add that there are a few food items you cannot afford to take a wait- & -see attitude with: peanuts being foremost. The first time you are exposed to something isn't dangerous....it's the second time, and every time afterwards the reaction is likely to get worse. If the second time you feed a toddler/child peanuts or tree nuts you see anything like a rash around the mouth or the child complains that their mouth or throat feels funny, you absolutely have to stop feeding it to them. Unfortunately, there are a few food allergies which are not just uncomfortable but potentially lethal. Liz
Guest guest
DJ, I really liked your advice at first, but then I started thinking of my sons reaction when he eats or I eat something that contains wheat or soy. His cheeks get sunburned red and dry and scaley, when he eats soy, and when he eats wheat he get this rash on the side of his face that is pussy and itchy. He itchs it until he is bleeding. I am sure that he will grow out of it, but for now...it bothers him and it bothers me so I prefer to just avoid these foods as much as possible. you know what I mean? What types of reactions have you had to certain foods? Becky , DJ <doovinator wrote: > > My 2 cents? Guest guest
Becky, I'd suggest looking for a TBM or NAET practitioner in your area to clear the allergies. These are both very effective techniques. If you need for info, please feel free to email me directly. Peace, Laura
