I live in a medium-sized city (around 150,000 people) and I recently

found out that there is a small, independent farm store in a little town

about a 40-minute drive from me that has home delivery of organic

produce. But I've never seen the service advertised and only found out

via an acquaintance who uses it. It could be these things are around

more than we realize, and just aren't very visible. I've only ever

popped into that store once or twice when I happened to be driving

through the town on the way somewhere else, and I hadn't known they

delivered.

In case there's anyone else out there who lives in my neck of the woods

-- the store is called Pfenning's Organic and it is in St. Agatha,

Ontario (Canada). They deliver weekly to Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge,

Guelph, Brantford, Stratford, Paris, and Elmira for a $5 fee.

And -- I'm so excited -- there's a vegan variety store opening in

Kitchener in June! It's always seemed like natural products etc. were

something I had to order online, mainly from the States, not available

anywhere around here. That's changing quickly.

Out in Western canada, spud.ca does lots of deliveries. They recently came to

Calgary (where I live), taking over a smaller company, Organic Express, which

also used to deliver. I do think this sort of thing is quite common in large

cities now--even out here in 'cattle country'. :-)
