eats yogurt and yesterday I made him egg for the first time...he was

not realy into that!

any ideas woud be helpful. I am a vegsterian, not vegan, but only buy

organic vegaterain food.

Hummus was always and still is a favorite for my 4 year old, and when she

was a baby. Of course cheese, veggie meats are good too.

let's see...at that age we started giving our son nuts, not peanuts, but

other nut butters such as almond or cashew. your call on that; some parents

are more concerned about nut allergies. i would NOT recommend giving

peanuts before at least a year. but if there aren't any nut allergies in

your family, he might do fine with other nut butters. we also did a lot of

yogurt (soy in our case) and smashed up beans or lentils with brown rice and

veggies. also introduced some homemade crackers and bread, all whole-grain,

which is an ok protein source.

Hi Dara,

We are vegetarian parents of an 8 month old (and a very healthy 5 yo too!)

He does not do well with cow's milk, so no cottage cheese or cow's milk yogurt

for him. Instead, we give him goat's milk yogurt, tofu, hard cooked egg yolks

(the whites are not recommended for babies under 1 year of age), ground flax

seed and tahini.

The _Super Baby Food_ book by Ruth Yaron is our food bible! I highly

recommend buying it. She gives some great charts of what is good for babies at

what age, and is full of helpful information.

super baby food by ruth yaron is also our food bible. i made all my own

baby food and her book was the best. i still refer to it even though we're

not really on " baby " food anymore.

Dara,

All grains have protein. Hemp is a great source of protein. You can use hemp

oil on foods. All beans are wonderful. I suggest starting with lentils.

Later on, after many teeth are in, sprouted beans are very good to have in the

diet, as they have live enzymes.

Hope that helps. Make sure you have feed all the fruits and veggies before

going on to other foods.

Peace,

Laura in MD

My 20 month old son LOVES black beans. I make the vegetarian chili and use

black beans instead of kidney beans. My son also eats the soy meat. He

loves the Morning Star Farms line.

Hi Dara

As some other have suggested lenthil is a very good source of protien

For my son the first solid i introduced was a poridge made of

millet(which is not really rich the best source of protien but healthy

overall).

and the next one was Lenthils.

Boil (pressure cook) lenthil in water and mash it into a paste and

you can add a bit of salt and clarified butter for taste if u want.

Also I foudn this website that gives details of nutrition value for

different food and combination of food.

http://www.nutritiondata.com/

hope this helps.

Judy,

The chart is great as well as the articles.

I printed it out to give to the pregnant mom in my birthing classes.
