Guest guest
ok, so i'm reading aviva jill romm's " vaccinations. " in it she discusses natural ways of keeping a child healthy, such as diet. she's very progressive that children do not need meat or even dairy and states the various health issues arising from dairy. however, at the end of this paragraph, she says the following: " soy milk is not a healthful alternative to milk; it is highly processed and predisposes children to allergies and digestive and respiratory weaknesses. " she doesn't cite any studies or state where she gets her information, and i've never heard a statement like that. i could believe that soymilk is highly processed and in fact we've always considered it unfortunate that we won't consider feeding our son solely homemade soy milk, because we like the fortification, especially of b12 and omega-3s, found in the enhanced stuff. and i can also see why it might predispose a kid to a soy allergy to be given soy products too early. but what about the other stuff? has anyone heard claims like these before about soy milk? chandelle' -- see of pictures of isaiah at www.futurerevolutionary.blogspot.com. see more pictures at www.namesanddatesandtimes.blogspot.com. Guest guest
I've also heard that soy milk (and tofu for that matter) shouldn't be consumed, but I wonder if it makes a difference if you make the soy milk yourself. - earthmother Tuesday, June 20, 2006 6:56 PM " unhealthful " soy milk? ok, so i'm reading aviva jill romm's " vaccinations. Guest guest
My mom bought a Little Helper Automatic Soy Milk Maker. It is makes it from just soaked soy beans and water. She has suffered terribly from allergies prior to buying this and starting to make her own fresh soy milk. She didn't like soy milk before she tried this freshly made kind she makes. Now her allergies problems have been greatly diminished. She just drank cow milk prior to this. I have drank soy milk we made from a powder, ever since I was a kid. Love the stuff. We also love the Silk Soy Enhanced made from organic soy beans. I dilute it some with water. I also love the Better than Milk Soy Milk. Great stuff. I like it better made from the dry powder than in the pre-made box form. Guest guest
There is a lot of hype about the negative effects of soy. From all the research I have done it is just that. Hype - mostly generated from a very powerful dairy industry. Guest guest
I'll second what Jacq said. The dairy industry, and I think the meat industry in general, have a lot to lose if people cut back on their animal-based products in favour of more healthy veg choices, so they've put a lot of money into " studies " and " surveys " and " research " to try to prove that soy is bad for you. They neglect to point out that the animals they raise for slaughter are fed a diet composed largely of soybeans as well! How ironic is that? Certainly, eating too much of anything is not healthy. But the claims made by the anti-soy people are easily refuted. Go to any good veg website and they should have a FAQ or link on the subject. I know www.veganlunchbox@... does. Guest guest
well, i definitely would have said the same thing too, except that this author isn't promoting the dairy industry; in fact she condemns it. so i got all confused when she talked about the evils of dairy and then went on to say how crappy silk is too. Guest guest
A woman in a health food store who seemed very knowledgeable told us that tofu and soy milk are " mucus forming " and that we eat way too much of the unfermented kind in the West. I think a person should be able to tell if soy milk or tofu is causing problems for you. My family cut back on soy milk -- replacing it with rice milk, which I like better anyway. ~Paul Jacq wrote: > There is a lot of hype about the negative effects of soy. Are we perhaps happier, merrier, more satisfied? Not at all. We are restless, beaten, weary, incessantly hurrying from one place to another.
