Re: Re: choosing guardians

We're in the process of moving to Austin, TX for the same reasons. There are

many veg only restaurants and veg friendly restaurants too. Definitely a true

sense of community, cool people, mild weather, great culture and music scene,

hilly and green, affordable and very liberal.

We were looking at Austin, Portland and Seattle as the top choices. N.Ca and

Boulder would have been great but we would not have been able to afford even a 1

room studio and my husband and I already lived in Colorado!! We decided on

Austin. Although, you can't go wrong with any of them!

Carrol,

I think you're doing exactly the right thing. Moving isn't a bad

idea. It sounds like you've out grown your current friends in more

than one way. The most vegan friendly place I know is Seattle, WA.

It's amazing and there is a true sense of community there. You

should check it out...maybe a vacation or a long weekend. You will

be impressed. Even the surrounding areas are very veggie/vegan

savvy. The school are good, as well.

portland is our top choice too. we live in utah right now and it's pretty

much a nightmare for " alternative lifestyles " (i,e, vegan, AP, etc.). we

definitely plan to have a little farm in oregon someday. we considered

washington for a long time, but i don't ultimately want to live in the city,

but if i want a rural area, we'll have to go east, and i don't like the

desert. plus, it is way expensive to live there. so portland seems like a

nice middle ground, and seattle is only 4 hours away so we can take day

trips there.

I live in WA and there are LOTS of rural areas in Western WA. You just need to

leave the immediate Puget Sound area and go north to Snohomish and Skagit

counties or south toward Mt. Rainier. WA is a very beautiful place with much

more than Seattle. Eastern WA is mostly arid with hot summers and very cold

winters.

Oregon is very nice too and, you're right, probably cheaper than much of WA.

Interesting news about WA. Are you going to see John/Cary again? I would like

to know from Cary how living in Washington is.
