Guest guest
Has anyone taken their kids to see Barnyard? I just saw it this past weekend and thought it was great. I admit that the first ten minutes or so I was a little skeptical but it got better and better as it went along. And, I don't think I am giving anything away by saying that I was very delighted about half way through when the animals are talking about how great the farmer is because he's a VEGAN! Awesome. Hubby and I took our 5-year-old a few weeks ago, and we all LOVED it--my daughter especially! I highly recommend it! I was shocked when the animals talked about how the farmer is a vegan and the difference between being a vegetarian and a vegan. It was great! The only problem is the farmer is VERY fat. Ah well.... In any case, I think this is a great movie to take little vegetarians and vegans to! Sheri
Guest guest
My husband took the boys to see this and he didn't mention that part! LOL Nice to see some veggie role models in the mainstream. Guest guest
We took our 2 and 5 year olds. They both loved it. There is a little bit of violence (good guys against the bad guys kind of thing) so if your kid is sensitive to that then maybe wait and rent it so you can watch it first and make sure. Otherwise, I think any age kid would enjoy it. , " wwjd " <jtwigg wrote: > > What ages do you think would best enjoy this? It sounds good. Guest guest
The reviews of this movie have been very positive on this list, but in reading " outside " reviews, the response hasn't been so good. Is it just our vegetarian mindset vs. the rest of the country that explains the difference, or is the movie -- its production, script, etc. -- not so good, but we're being forgiving because of the veganism in it? As an example, Wallace & Grommit in " The Curse of the Were-Rabbit " is well-made on every level, and the entire point of the movie is that the heros show compassion to all animals, even " pests " . Everyone likes that movie, not just vegetarians. Please advise....thanks! Liz
Guest guest
The many bad reviews I've read all had one thing in common -- all of the cows are cows, even the males, and they have bright pink teats. Guest guest
We are huge fans of the Movie Mom. She tends to be a bit more conservative than we are, and provides good guidelines for kids movies. Guest guest
I took my 7 1/2 yr old son to see this movie, and he and I both liked it. He did cry at one point in the movie, but it was touching, and he actually went back to see it a second time with a (non-vegetarian) friend and his family. Guest guest
I just saw the movie with my 5 yr old ds yesterday. He liked it, and I was glad it amused him, so we are an easy going crowd. I was really confused about the cows. Am I missing something? Aren't male cows bulls? This set a strange feeling about the movie from the beginning, since I was telling him that it was a girl, but the voice was male. And then Otis called him Dad. LOL. I don't think it'll win any awards, but I love going to the movies and glad my son is old enough to see something non offense. It was a fun loving movie and catches on the " circle of life " theme. I also enjoyed the bit of dancing. Again I'm an easy crowd for a movie, but it's nice to have some special time with my son. And it gives us something that we shared together. Have a great day! Guest guest
Did the cows do any boy tipping? My daughter and I have been playing the " Boy Tipping Game " on the website. It is so HARD. I beat the game twice. It took me the longest time. Renee janeen minguillo <jminshan wrote: I just saw the movie with my 5 yr old ds yesterday. Guest guest
According to my online dictionary, one entry for ³cow²: Informal. a domestic bovine of either sex and any age. Can¹t help with the teat issue, though. Tracy On 8/24/06 8:16 AM, " janeen minguillo " <jminshan wrote: > I just saw the movie with my 5 yr old ds yesterday. Guest guest
Renee, There was one part where they did. It was pretty funny because they were retaliating for the boys who went cow tipping to an unsuspecting cow. Tracy thanks for looking it up. It was really a strange aspect of the movie. I'm not sure how to explain it to my son though. He's very willful, and will certainly refer to this as a reference that boy cows have teats. Not sure if I should even bring it up again. Shouldn't they just have made them bulls. Probably. But I'm glad we saw it regardless. Life gets a little boring, so at least it gives us something to chat about. Thanks, Janeen carol25 wrote: Did the cows do any boy tipping? My daughter and I have been playing the " Boy Tipping Game " on the website. It is so HARD. I beat the game twice. Guest guest
I was wondering what is it thats offensive? I was going to rent it for the kids when it came out on DVD. I can only imagine what you are going to say. I mean this is a kids movie why dont the producers think of things like that. Guest guest
There is a website, probably one of many, that posts reviews of various movies. The website listed below summarizes Barnyard as follows: violence: mild profanity: minor sex/nudity: minor There is a lot of detailed provided on the website that explains why the movie was rated this way. The Washington Post also had a review which had findings consistent with the above in last week's paper, but I trashed it. If there is another review in this week's paper, I will share it with the group. http://www.christiananswers.net/spotlight/movies/2006/barnyard2006.html
