Guest guest
Hi, Just in case you hadn't heard. People across the country have become ill from tainted spinach. Until they find the source they are recommending not eating bagged spinach. What a bummer! I have it practically every day for lunch!!! I hope they find out the source very soon. http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/09/15/tainted.spinach.ap/index.html Tracy
Guest guest
It is my understanding that all bagged type of salads are not very safe to eat, especially to those with a compromised immune system. Dateline did a report earlier this year on the topic: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12536902/ ~Michele , Tracy Childs <tracychilds wrote: > > Hi, > > Just in case you hadn't heard. Guest guest
no kidding!! i just fixed myself and my daughter the yummiest lentil and pineapple salsa burritos and packed them full of spinach!! then i sat down at my 'puter to check email and read the news...and voila!! im bombarded with " DON'T EAT SPINACH!!! " warnings, but i figure, we have been eating outof the same bag all week and we aren't sick, although i have felt kinda icky the past couple of days (but that is probably just hormones...or i'm pregnant again *yikes!*) its funny, i just went grocery shopping this afternoon and was totally bummed that there was no more spinach, it's the only greens my 4 yr old will eat. i guesswe will have to find something else for a while. i hope they get it under control soon! " me likes me spinich, argh, argh, argh! " (that was popeye, if you couldn't tell) mel , Tracy Childs <tracychilds wrote: > > Hi, > > Just in case you hadn't heard. Guest guest
It turns out that the bad spinach was from Natural Selection Foods. The spinach is sold under the brand names Rave Spinach, Natural Selection Foods, Dole, Earthbound Farm, Trader Joe's, Ready Pac and Green Harvest. This information is from an update on cnn.com: http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/09/15/tainted.spinach.ap/index.html I have used all of those brands in the past. It's really scary. I was really depending on those products. Of course they don't know what happened to make a small percentage of their product tainted with e- coli. What a bummer! Here we avoid the risky e-coli tainted beef and our spinach (and other veggies in the past) gets it! Guest guest
Mel, Congrats on your pregnancy. Have you tried green or red chard with your daughter? It's so close to spinach, most people like both. Just my 2 cents! Peace, Laura in MD bummed that there was no more spinach, it's the only greens my 4 yr old will eat. i guesswe will have to find something else for a while. Guest guest
I was surprised and disturbed to hear that manure is used to fertilze organic produce. I have always thought that home gardeners should only use manure for flowers, not for anything being eaten and assumed that commercial farmers did the same.
