Guest guest
Earthmother summed up the dilemma well: do we use synthetic and hurth the planet or " natural " and hurt the animals. Best solution I have it to use as few as possible of either. And by that I do not mean changing baby less often, of course. I mean reusing the same items as long as possible. And hand-me-downs where possible. > Yikes, as scratchy and hot as wool is, who would ever use those as diaper covers?????????? They are soft and absorbent and since they are covers they don't actually contact baby's skin. Here is a great online business that sells both kinds and [drum roll] knows what the word " vegan " means! www.parentingbynature.com ~Paul -- www.mackenziewild.ca

How do you seal off a diaper that will become soiled by not bringing the diaper cover around to seal off a diaper(which would involve it coming in contact with the skin) from being able to wick out all the way to the edges and spread, thus getting it their body excreats on anything their bottom has contact with prior to a diaper change. Leakage would occurs quickly and one doesn't know right away always that they have used the bathroom.......
Guest guest
i think leena (?) summed it up well that for many of us when it comes down to a dilemma between the environment and the animals, it makes sense to choose the most humane option. sometimes that sucks! but i'm glad someone posted the link about how wool diapers aren't all they're cracked up to be environmentally, either. rule #1 for us is, if at all possible, buy used. we do use PUL but we only buy used. so i don't feel TOO bad about it. Guest guest
It hasn't really been a problem. The (cotton or hemp) diaper itself makes the seal. There may be some wool contact with the skin. That is less of a problem than the elasticised plastic contact. It is not a perfect seal. What is? Liquids don't usually leak out b/c the diaper is absorbent. Solids are usually concentrated away from the edges. So while it is not 100% fail-safe [what is?] we have a pretty good sense of when she needs changing. Sorry I'm about a month late responding! ~P wwjd wrote: > How do you seal off a diaper that will become soiled by not bringing the diaper cover around to seal off a diaper(which would involve it coming in contact with the skin) from being able to wick out all the way to the edges and spread, thus getting it their body excreats on anything their bottom has contact with prior to a diaper change.
