Guest guest
I urge those of you who are telling Danielle that dogs are carnivores to do a little more research. They are actually omnivores like humans and, like humans, can survive as both carnivores and herbivores. Pointing to one's teeth as evidence is incorrect. If you look at a baboon's teeth, you will see that they look much more ferocious, yet no one is telling baboon's that they should be eating meat instead of consuming all that vegetation. And, they ARE actually natural creatures unlike domesticated animals. Teeth develop based on social structures not diet. The documented oldest-living dog is vegan being fed a diet of brown rice, lentils, and vegetables. Dogs are domesticated animals, and by the nature of domestication, are not natural, so to say that meat is natural for them makes little sense. My dog is vegan and is healthy on a vegan diet. However, even if the vegan diet were a little less than ideal for my dog, I would not be comfortable feeding her animals. I simply cannot justify killing one animal to save another; favoring the seen animal over the unseen just doesn't work for me. She's welcome to hunt for what she wants on our property, but I won't have any part in causing suffering for her survival. FYI - I didn't actually want a dog at the time mine came into my life. My son was 6 weeks old, but the rescue group begged me to take her. I told them I would foster her, but they begged some more, and we kept her. So, don't flame me for getting a dog! --Allison
Guest guest
Ah, similar situation over here! Well, we wanted a dog, just not this one. She was out in a tiny yard being fed the lowest quality " food " on the market, alone, filthy, and unhappy times a million. Now with her " unnatural " home cooked vegetarian diet she has her very own full-sized bed in our room, a friend, constant attention... nice trade-off!
