Guest guest
I'm going to have to look through some of our books at home that my daughters like. Recently I started reading a new series to my older daughter and we were both very surprised and happy to find that the main character is a vegetarian girl, which seems to come up in most of the books. The series is called " Katie Kazoo, Switcheroo " and is by Nancy Krulik. We haven't read all of them (not nearly), but the idea is that this girl Katie gets switched into other people's or animal's bodies to experience what they are going through. They've been good so far, but I will definitely look at our books that go more into veg issues. This is a great idea. Thanks a lot! Guest guest
Hi Jill, Thanks for your note. Yeah, I would definitely love to know some of your other favorites. And, I'll look into the book you have mentioned. I have not heard about it before. Thanks, Dasha , " Jill Wenzel " <jillben2005 wrote: > > I'm going to have to look through some of our books at home that my > daughters like. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing your list! Here are some books I read to my kids (5 and 8): 1. The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl, coyright 1966. It's a story about a family of hunters who have the tables turned on them, and ultimately they learn a lesson about compassion. I think it's targeted for kids in the 7-9 year old range. I believe it's on video, too. 2. The Great Kapok Tree, by Lynne Cherry, copyright 1990. It's about an axeman who is going to cut down a tree, but has a change of heart after learning what the tree means to the inhabitants of the rain forest who depend on the tree. Suitable for kids in either the 4-8 or 8-12 category. (I would say 4-10.) 3. Noah's Ark, by Gail E. Haley, copyright 1971. A modern version of the biblical story, but religious only in an allegorical sense. The modern day Noah saves the animals after humans destroy their habitat, and returns them only after the habitat has been restored. Suitable for kids in either the 4-8 or 8-12 category. (I would say 4-10, again.) 4. The Mountains of Tibet, by Mordicai Gerstein, copyright 1987. This is a sweet book, charmingly illustrated, that presents the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth as a progression of choices. For ages 7 and up, according to the back cover, but my 5 year old likes it a lot, too. - Alan , " tinydasha " <TinyDasha wrote: > > Hi everybody, > > I'm currently volunteering for VRG and compiling a list of storybooks > for kids related to vegetarianism.
