Guest guest
Not only do you have to use the ready made lice shampoo's at the pharmacy, but you have to wash all of the linens on everyone's bed, coats, clothes, vacumun the house, vehicle, couch, mattress and anything their head has had contact with, (throw out the bag afterwards), etc...... All of this is important or they and you will come incontact with their eggs again. It is very time consuming process, but completely necessary. - Colin Hammond Friday, December 29, 2006 1:43 AM Head lice and Nits? Guest guest
We had resistant-to-almost-everything lice going around our school last year. I totally sympathize!! You really, really have to comb out every strand of hair every day for weeks (yes, I know, I've been there). Get the hair wet and greasy in some way -- there are commercial gels you can use, or just use your regular conditioner -- and use a proper lice comb. You'll get to know which type of lice comb works best for the hair you're working with. If it's a boy, shave their head. If it's a girl, get a short haircut. Seriously. And FWIW, we tried all the natural choices, including straight tea tree oil, etc. Nothing worked except for Rid. After 6 months, believe me, you'll use just about anything to get rid of 'em. Guest guest
Forgot to mention....the nits go through two stages, one where they're brownish and one where they're whitish. In other words, no matter what kind of hair your kid has, there will be a stage when you CANNOT see the darned nits. This does not mean they aren't there. Nature has a cruel sense of humour! Guest guest
you need to wash everything her head touches in hot water: pillows, furniture cushions, hair brush etc. Whole foods sells a non-toxic (but really smelly) head cleaner. Guest guest
I forgot to say that after you get rid of them never send your child to school without hairspray on. I know it's not natural but it does keep them off. Carol ERB <bakwin wrote: We had resistant-to-almost-everything lice going around our school last year. I totally sympathize!! Guest guest
No I would not kill it. This is the measure of true compassion. I would take precautions to not be bitten. Because it is the mosquito's natural function to survive, it should not be killed. Guest guest
Children are not allowed in school so long as they have lice. Once you get the lice & nits off their head, you can do what you want with them, but you have to get them off the kid's head. Liz
Guest guest
Yes, I'd love to know. Personally I don't kill any insects, but I've never had a lice/nit problem. I've seen lice and nits on a friend's child and am wondering how they can be removed compassionately. I'm not being smart...I would really like to know. I guess you could shave the child's head if you wanted to be extreme, but there's still the bedding/etc issue. Hopefully I'll never have to deal with this. Guest guest
Head lice are specialized and adapted to live only among the hair present on the human head. To live, adult lice need to feed on blood. If the louse is separated from a human head it dies within a couple days. - Alan , ERB <bakwin wrote: > > Children are not allowed in school so long as they > have lice. Guest guest
My daughter get head lice at summer camp one year. It took me 3 hours to go through her hair. You must be very very detailed in going through every stran of hair, and you must use the store bought shampoo. I also bought the sprays like 15 cans and then super cleaned my home and car also you need to bag up all dolls and stuffed animals for at least 3 weeks to kill lice that may be living on them too. I have 2 boys as well that I gave crew cuts to just as a saftey. Needless to say My daughter had hair as long as her waist that got cut to her jaw line. I also made her bring a trash bag to school and bag her coat and hat and back pack up and tie it tight and place it away from the other students belongings. I always pull her hair back into a tight braid and spray it with hairspraiy so the lice cant get to her head from other students. When she comes home we wash her hair right away and I check it for lice and nits. If you dont do an extreem home cleaning and vaccume EVERYTHING and spray Everything you will not get rid of them. Also remember to do the entire couch and chairs remove the cushions and wash the covers if you can, and spray the padding under the covers if they can be removed. Also once you do get rid of them have her checked by the school nurse every day for 2 weeks a second person looking for them is always a good idea too incase she finds something you might miss. I hope this helps. wwjd <jtwigg wrote: LOL you have head lice and ask me that again. rofl......................... - Heather Hovey Friday, December 29, 2006 6:56 PM Re: Head lice and Nits? kill their eggs? Guest guest
Well I agree on this " no killing issue " . My vegetarian since birth 11 yrs daughter pointed out: " You see how caring is the lice mother? She puts her eggs someplace soft and warm with enough food for the babies when they come out! Isn't she sweet? " Now when you hear that coming out from the mouth of a child that has a lice party going on her head is some cultural shock. What I did was to remove them one by one by hand and sometimes just cut the " infected " hairs individually with small scissors. From then on there is something that we call PRECAUTION and consists in using a repellant spray-we got a miraculous one from Apivita company with citronella and oils and the child being aware of where she …puts her head and what accessories she uses. Peace for all who live Evita-greece , " Lisa Veg*n " <vegetariankids wrote: > > Yes, I'd love to know. Personally I don't kill any insects, but I've > never had a lice/nit problem. Guest guest
School nurse? Is there still such a thing? The Chicago schools have a nurse for 1/2 day a week. Lori Owens <lovemyheavenly3 wrote: My daughter get head lice at summer camp one year. I thought the point was not to kill. wwjd <jtwigg wrote: Oh and set your washing machin on HOT WATER or it won't kill their eggs. - wwjd Friday, December 29, 2006 8:38 AM Re: Head lice and Nits? Not only do you have to use the ready made lice shampoo's at the pharmacy, but you have to wash all of the linens on everyone's bed, coats, clothes, vacumun the house, vehicle, couch, mattress and anything their head has had contact with, (throw out the bag afterwards), etc...... All of this is important or they and you will come incontact with their eggs again. It is very time consuming process, but completely necessary. - Colin Hammond Friday, December 29, 2006 1:43 AM Head lice and Nits? Guest guest
Isn't it beautiful when a child can show us the way? She can see the true nature of things and I would say you must be very proud of her! I would be!! Evita Tsihlis <evitamc2 wrote: Well I agree on this " no killing issue " . Guest guest
Please don't think I am being rude, I am truly curious. How did you prevent the lice from dying after you removed them from your daughter's head? Thank you , " Evita Tsihlis " <evitamc2 wrote: > > Well I agree on this " no killing issue " . > My vegetarian since birth 11 yrs daughter pointed out: > " You see how caring is the lice mother?
