Guest guest
I have a book called " Childhood Ear Infections " by Dr. Michael A. Schmidt. On the cover is says: " What every parent and physician should know about prevention, home care and alternative treatment " Perhaps you would find it useful. I just searched Amazon and an updated version is available. Mine was published in 1990. Knock on wood, my kids have not had ear infections in years. My son had them all the time as a toddler (before we were vegan) My daughter complains that her ears hurt at times, especially after playing soccer in the wind, or swimming too much. I used warm cotton balls with warm olive oil placed in the ear while laying on her side (hurt ear up). This seems to help. I also use a swimmer's ear solution in her ears for swimmer's ear in the summer. Good luck! Guest guest
From personal experience I will not do tubes. My sister suffered ear infections all the way through adulthood and has had tubes. SHe has lost her hearing in one ear and had surgery on the other to repair damages caused by tubes and has now very little hearing in that ear. We are tyring everything under the sun to prevent ear infections and the doctors wanting to do tubes. SO far so good. Gwyneth Treharne <gwynt wrote: Hello, interesting that this be posted right now. We have been vegan for many years so my 6yr old has never had dairy but she has always been prone to ear infections. Rarely complains that it hurts - the first we knew of it was age 4 or so when we went to get her hearing checked and she had a " raging ear infection " that we didn't even know about. She tends to be loud, doesn't hear very well and, when at it's worst, has a bad smell around her ears/head. ENT Dr felt it to be improving last time we were there (September) and likely wouldn't need tubes but last night she was upset that she gets into trouble when she doesn't hear us ask her to do something so she doesn't do it (not sure if this is a convenience to her either cos she hears the good stuff we tell her just fine!) plus she said her ears are hurting a bit. She mishears speech sometimes - especially the consonants. She has been on antibiotics just once when a baby as we avoid them whenever we can. We've used the olive oil/garlic ear drops and to be honest haven't noticed much difference. She's just getting over a cold so an ear infection is not suprising after that but what more can we do? Going to get them checked next week and see what happens. Any thoughts appreciated. >1f. Guest guest
oh, I also know of people who have great success with chiropractic and/or craniosacral therapy for ear infections. Helps with promoting flow of ear fluid so that there is not stagnation of fluids which is an ideal place for bacteria to grow... I think there is a group of Chiropractors especially trained in Pediatrics... hope this helps, karen
Guest guest
Hello All, My neighbor said the same thing about removing milk from her diet reducing her kids ear infection as a toddler. Hear are a few things that i have noted about ear infection ( i am sure you guys might have come across this before but I’ll be glad if any of this is useful to you) In most cases ear infection doesn’t occurs a lot after certain age (4 or 5 I think) if it seems to continue happening more than a few times after the child is over that age then that would mean that the childs ear structure (so some kids are more prone to it than others) So please be aware if your kid is more susceptible to it or not. if you can avoid cold occurrence or even reduce the occurrence of cold that will reduce ear infection Other situations that can cause ear infection or aggravate them are (when there is a sudden pressure difference, like when ur plane takes off or lands) Here is something that I tried (still do ) with my son to reduce cold occurrence and increase his immunization (and I believe it has worked very well ) Local honey mixed in warm water (they say that local honey contains the pollen of local plants and small quantities of this can help u build resistance to the allergies (not sure if it’s the right word)) Apple cider vinegar (I am a big fan of this) diluted in water can be very good for health (builds up resistance, and a lot of others issues) http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/acvinegar.html To combine 1 and 2 I typically put 1 spoon of honey + 2 sps of ACV in 1 cup of warm water (add ginger or lemon for taste) If you are still recommended about using tubes, try to ask a lot of questions about the side effects and issues associated with ear infection. TUBES DON’T STOP EAR INFECTION from happening, Something to read on this: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/health_problems/infection/ear_infection.html Get your own web address.
