Guest guest
Hi! We are having a bit of a mouse problem. I've found a number of humane traps online. I'm just wondering if anyone has actually used one, and if so, which brand you found to work personally. Thanks! btw, I like the mouse/mice spouse/spice signature someone has, but when I did a search on mouse, I got about 80 hits...most of which had nothing to do with mice! Is there a signature you can have about beef maybe? Haaaaa!
Guest guest
I have used humane mouse traps. We have eight cats (yes all fixed and all coming to us through desperate situations) and so I worry about any mouse who dares come in our house. I got mine from menards or something. It worked fine, but I will warn you that when you have them set they need to be checked constantly, as in every hour or two, so don't leave them set while you sleep at night. I absolutely stressed that to my mom when she borrowed my traps, but she did not and one mouse died in a trap in only a one day period because they will go crazy and die trying to find a way out. I was so upset with her. Also, when we caught a mouse during winter, we kept him for a while until it warmed up outside and then we brought him to a barn (without barn cats). Good luck. Guest guest
O was also told that mice are very smart and find their way back if they are dropped within a 5 mile radius. ben wenzel <jillben2005 Wednesday, February 14, 2007 9:09:07 AM Re: mouse trap I have used humane mouse traps. Guest guest
I'm not sure of the brand of mousetrap we use, but I think just as long as it shuts when the mouse goes in it's fine! The trick is finding bait they can't refuse. I have pet mice and I get inside their minds, so consider me a valuable resource, lol!!! They're smart, and they're not going to go into something that looks like a trap unless there's something reeeeeaaally good in there. Get a cracker and spread a thin layer of peanut butter on it. Not too thick or they can get too much and choke. Then sprinkle sunflower seeds on top (in the shell or not, they love them either way). It'll keep for a couple of days. Silly thing, mice really do not like cheese! Plus most rodents are lactose intolerant. I'm sooo glad you're using the humane traps!! Those snap traps and glue traps are so very horrible. Guest guest
Yeah, you have to take the little buggers a looooong way off. Mice are much smarter than they're given credit for. Guest guest
Oops, another thing worth mentioning- don't put a caught mouse in a place where you know there are other mice. Male mice often draw up their testicles when they're frightened and it's really hard to tell if they're male or female. Male mice will kill other male mice in their territory, so it's best to just put them somewhere you believe is free of mice. Male mice are mean little things. Guest guest
<I'm sooo glad you're using the humane traps!! Those snap traps and glue traps are so very horrible. > I agree. I used a glue trap once thinking it would be more humane. I was so wrong and haven't used another one since. I still feel guilty about it, even though I really didn't know and actually thought I was using the best option. OK, thanks for your insider scoop on the secret life of mice...I appreciate it. I would never kill anything...especially a cute little rodent! Guest guest
Thanks! We already have a mouse recolation plan drawn up. I'm going to drop them off at our friends' house down the road while they're away at work. Haaaaaaaa! Of course, they have no knowledge of this plan. Actually our friend has a hay barn, so I'm thinking we could put them there. They definitely wouldn't survive outside right now with the weather we're having. , ben wenzel <jillben2005 wrote: > > I have used humane mouse traps. Guest guest
We had a mouse problem from the time we bought our house until about six years later when the skunk family (skunks are great mousers) moved under our back porch. They were only there for one winter, but we've now gone two years without a mouse in the house. Guest guest
I keep telling my husband he should let me marry another man so I can have one that will ACTUALLY TAKE OUT THE TRASH!!! So that's why the spouse/spice thing is funny to me. Plus the rodent reference, we currently have 5 of our own rats, 6 foster rats, 10 mice, and a hamster... a bit of an addiction, eh? I'm a spider-hater and even then I will catch them, saying " Eeewww! I hate you spider!! Eeeewwww!! " the whole time, and I put them in the garage so they don't freeze outside. My parents always thought I was nuts. Maybe I am, but I'm sure the spiders adore me. Lisa Veg*n <vegetariankids wrote: Hey Kadee! You're the mouse/mice spouse/spice person!!! Haaaaaa!
