Guest guest
It finally got here!! I'm so glad!! I have the soybeans soaking in the kitchen, and because I am so impatient I put some rolled oats in there for now. It said I didn't have to soak rolled grains, and I had some rolled oats for the rats. We'll see how it turns out, and if we don't like it we'll give it to the dogs. They like soy milk in their food but it's only a treat since soy milk is so expensive at the store. Not anymore!! I got soybeans for $1.15/lb. and it only takes half a cup of them to make soy milk! If you can't tell, I'm a little bit excited about my new toy. Kadee

Guest guest
It's a SoyaJoy. I made some soy milk today and my husband says it's just as good as the stuff we get at the store. So this is going to end up saving us a ton of money. Plus there are no additives or artificial sweeteners. Such a fun thing!! And it's not nearly as hard to clean as I figured it'd be. Guest guest
Hi Kadee, What brand of soymilk did you buy before? I love the idea of making my own, but I want to be sure it will not go to waste. Also, does it use fresh soybeans or dried? Robin Kadee M <abbey_road3012 wrote: It's a SoyaJoy. I made some soy milk today and my husband says it's just as good as the stuff we get at the store. Guest guest
I got mine of Ebay for a bit less than I could have bought it from the company. It comes with a warranty and everything! They always have lots of them. It's totally a good deal, this thing will pay itself off in less than two months the way we go through it. Guest guest
Ironically, my soymilk maker, Soya Joy arrived Friday! I'm excited about using it. I tried making soymilk the old-fashion way and it was time-consuming and a disaster (ended up throwing the milk away!). My children are so excited about using it too. I want to make rice milk, but didn't see any directions for doing so. I saw a recipe for almond/rice milk. Has anyone tried making rice milk in the maker? I'm tired of paying almost $22 for a case of Rice Dream Milk for my milk-aholic 3-year old! - Kadee M Saturday, March 03, 2007 7:50 PM Re: Got my soymilk maker!!! Guest guest
I was wondering about the rice milk too. If you find something, let me know, and I'll do the same. We still have to go through a whole half gallon of the store bought soy milk, then two batches of the stuff I made in the machine (I was excited). Then I'm going to just try some rice in there and see how it goes. admartin5 wrote: Ironically, my soymilk maker, Soya Joy arrived Friday! I'm excited about using it. Guest guest
Okay, maybe this is a dumb question -- but the rice and soy milks we buy are fortified with lots of vitamins, including b12. My hesitation with buying a soymilk maker was that we wouldn't have that fortification for our kids. Is that an issue for you? Heather Kadee M wrote: > > I was wondering about the rice milk too. Guest guest
I'm just crushing half a calcium tablet and mixing it into the milk at the same time as the sugar. We're out of brewer's yeast at the moment but as soon as we get more I'm going to start adding that in as well. I'm not too worried though, even if it's not fortified the kids get lots of different foods, so they're not missing out on anything. Guest guest
I have a soyajoy too! I do like it, I make soymilk and tofu from it. My kids, being used to the store-bought kind, won't drink it untouched.. you need to add a touch of salt and sweetener (I use maple syrup, like a T and a 1/8 tsp salt, as per bryanna clark grogan's site) to get it to taste " right " , unless your kids have always had unsweetened/unflavored soymilk. I buy calcium tablets with vitamin d, grind them in my coffee grinder and add it... b12 I do not add, but only because my kids multi has it, and we eat a TON of nutritional yeast with b12, and cereal enriched with it, etc. honestly, I often just don't remember to get around to soaking the beans, so I still buy a case of soymilk every week or two, and use it as a supplemement, and to make a lot of tofu, even soy yogurt (with a yogurt maker, too) My other issue is the cleaning- it's not impossible to clean, but if you don't clean it perfectly EVERY time.. it clogs.. fast... and then it's a nightmare to get those clogs out! Also, I often soak the beans and then have to consider if I have the time to clean it before I make the milk, since you kind of have to clean it right after you make the milk, or it will clog. I tried the almond millk instructions, and it was pretty good.. I tried rice milk instructions with jasmine rice, and it was a disaster!! I'm going to try one of these days with some white rice and see if I get better results! that's my take on it, but for more info, I'd suggest going to Bryannaclarkgrogan.com, since that's what convinced me to buy one! - Heather Hossfeld<hlh4850 < > Sunday, March 04, 2007 1:24 PM Re: Got my soymilk maker!!! Guest guest
Does anyone take the hulls off the soybeans? (I read that the milk is smoother if the beans are de-hulled.) If so, is there an easier way to do so other than picking the hulls off with fingers? I was totally undone tonight when after spending who knows how long pulling off hulls from my presoaked soybeans to discover that the first batch of soymilk I made with my new maker should be discarded! - Lisa Schroeder Sunday, March 04, 2007 6:55 PM Re: Got my soymilk maker!!! Guest guest
I read that you can just rub the beans between your hands and that makes the hulls come off, then you run water over them and the hulls float so you can just pour them out with the water. I'm leaving the hulls on because it's supposed to give the milk a higher fiber content. Why is it supposed to be thrown out? We drank ours. Oops. admartin5 wrote: Does anyone take the hulls off the soybeans? (I read that the milk is smoother if the beans are de-hulled.) Guest guest
I do every once in a while- supposedly it makes it smoother/whiter, etc. I never noticed much of a difference, except my 2 yr old gets a little gassier with any beans with skins on. bryannaclarkgrogan.com has her instructions on how to do it easily... but the basics are just to try and rub them between your fingers and as they slip off, try and grab them. - admartin5<admartin5 < > Sunday, March 04, 2007 9:39 PM Re: Got my soymilk maker!!! - Lisa Schroeder < > Sunday, March 04, 2007 6:55 PM Re: Got my soymilk maker!!! - Heather Hossfeld<hlh4850<hlh4850> To: < ><@\ > Sunday, March 04, 2007 1:24 PM Re: Got my soymilk maker!!! Guest guest
We alternated between 7th Continent (which was cheapest... but has artificial sweeteners... ick!!!) and Silk. If you sweeten it just right it's just as good without anything you don't want in it. We've been using dried soybeans, which we soak for several hours beforehand. I've also made some oat milk from rolled oats (which don't have to be soaked) for our dogs. They LOVE it. The kids and Jeff love the soy milk I made though (I won't drink it because it looks like cow's milk, which I will not touch!!). I'm very happy we got this. It'll pay itself off in no time. And it's better for us. And fresher. And we can re-use the same container over and over instead of wasting all that plastic or paper. And we can use whatever we want like rice or almonds or oats. And... I like my new toy!! robin koloms <rkoloms wrote: Hi Kadee, What brand of soymilk did you buy before? I love the idea of making my own, but I want to be sure it will not go to waste. Also, does it use fresh soybeans or dried? Robin Kadee M <abbey_road3012 wrote: It's a SoyaJoy. I made some soy milk today and my husband says it's just as good as the stuff we get at the store. So this is going to end up saving us a ton of money. Plus there are no additives or artificial sweeteners. Such a fun thing!! And it's not nearly as hard to clean as I figured it'd be. Guest guest
Hi All, speaking of soymilk makers, does anyone recommend one over another? I'd like to buy one (even though I'll have to change the plug since I live in Switzerland) and at amazon the Soyquick brand has much better reviews than the SoyLover. I also want it to make tofu. What do you guys think? thanks, Amy Geneva, Switzerland ______________________________\ ____ Looking for earth-friendly autos? Guest guest
I have a SoyaJoy and I love it. I haven't used any other kind but this one is great. Not a lot of trouble to clean and super easy to operate. Amy Merwin <amymerwin wrote: Hi All, speaking of soymilk makers, does anyone recommend one over another?
