Guest guest
I wanted to share my new find. Our HFS is now carrying Living Harvest's Hempmilk. (Omega's -3 and 6, made from whole hempseeds. It does have added brown rice syrup if you are avoiding sugars). My daughter likes this and has even asked for it in place of soymilk. She doesn't drink that much " milk " and we cut her soy with rice milk. This is a creamier, thicker milk than soy so I cut it with rice milk as well. It costs about 20 cents more than the soy milk here. It does say vegan on the package so the Vit A palmitate should be synthetic. Apparently it comes in chocolate and vanilla but we only have the original here. It is distributed by Living Harvest Conscious Nutrition if you want to check out their website at http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi- bin/ncommerce/ExecMacro/livingharvest/home.d2w/report Carrol

Guest guest
Cool, I wish hemp seeds were cheaper or I could just put some in the soymilk maker. rtillmansmail <rtillmansmail wrote: I wanted to share my new find. Guest guest
Renee, I am in Florida. My HFS carries a variety of hemp products, both food and clothing. I have also bought hemp foods in GA and NC. I can get hemp seeds, granola, flour, oil, waffles, milk and other. But, yes, I think Canada is a greater resource. I remember a couple of years ago there was an interuption in the supply to the HFS because of a controversy over the aws that allowed the foods entry. If you are close to a HFS you may see if they can order it because it is a lot more expensive online and then there is shipping... Guest guest
What about adding the refrigerated hemp oil to the milk after you have made it? I used to this with flax oil when I made different milks in the blender (and before I found the hemp oil). Question - do you add nutritional yeast to your soymilk for B12? I did this, but on my own. Do you have a recommended amount to add per quart, etc? Guest guest
I e-mailed the company as soon as I read the initial hempmilk post, and they said it isn't yet available in Canada. Just FYI -- but maybe if more people e-mail them they'll speed up the process! Maybe I'll let my local HFS know about it and see if they can try to order some. Guest guest
I've been able to buy some hemp foods at Whole Foods and IIRC Kroger's we don't really have any HFS here. That I know of anyway. We have Co-Ops and Whole Foods and that's about it. Actually Kroger's Naturals section has better variety than Whole Foods. If there are places like the HFS where we used to live (ran by the SDAs) I don't know about it. I used to love to go there. No it wasn't my daughter. What was the article about? Guest guest
Hi Renee, Sorry, the e-mail was supposed to be to Carrol who had written to you and said she was in FL. Got the names all confused. Sorry. So Carrol, where do you get hemp milk in FL? In what area are you? I'm in the Tampa Bay area and I haven't seen any here but would love to try it. Guest guest
Hi Gayle, I'm in the Panhandle. We have the largest co-op between New Orleans and Tallahasse. Tallahasse being the only other true co-operative HFS in FL. We also have several privately owned small health food stores - not just vitamin stores, they cary food as well. But I know there are several HFS down your way, at least in Gainesville (about an hour to 1 1/2 hours, right?). We visit Gainesville several times a year. I think the Hemp Milk is pretty new. You may be able to ask one of your locally owned HFS to order it for you. I pay $3.60 minus a 20% discount for the 32 oz. (only size so far and I get an extra discout for volunteering at the co-op). It retails online for over $4. If you drink a bit of milk, I really recommend it. We dilute it with rice milk and DD LOVES it! It is thicker and more " organic " and " Earthier " tasting than rice milk or even soy milk if that makes a difference to you. I would hate for you to order a whole case and not like it. BTW, we are coming down your way weekend after Easter. Been a couple of years since we traveled south of Gainesville. Can you recomend a place to food shop and a place to eat in Sarasota? Or between Tampa and Sarasota? My DH is strange about traveling. He gets these unrealistic schedules in his head - like that works with a toddler. But, maybe I could meet you somewhere and bring you a quart of the Hempmilk? We will probably stop in Gainesville on the way down or back if you will be up that way. Or maybe we can stop to eat somewhere close to you. Let me know, Carrol , " dilemma5 " <dilemma5 wrote: > > Hi Renee, > Sorry, the e-mail was supposed to be to Carrol who had written to you and said she was in FL. Got the names all confused. Guest guest
Actually, I believe the article was about Carol Sobczak's daughter. I think! She posts on this group, sometimes regularly. The article was about children/tweens choosing to convert to vegetarianism. It was from last year but I am so far behind in my reading! I had the article right here and now it is gone... Anyway, I think it is Carol's daughter and I believe that she is really standing up for her beliefs in school and such. I would have to review the archives to be sure. If you are reading this Carol, let us know. I shop sometimes at Whole Foods in Atlanta. They had some pretty good deals when they first opened. But, I find that most of what I use I can get at my local cooperative or a small HFS here in town for the same price or even better. (I do get a volunteer discount that helps.) I do shop at the cooperatives in Atlanta and take a quick tour through WF when there. I have also started ordering from online vegan stores - but that is usually for the convenience food and treats. You can get some really good deals from Amazon if you don't mind ordering in bulk (plus no shipping). I used to like Kroger's in Atlanta but we don't have those here. We have Albertson's but can't afford them. Our farmers' markets are terrible (all shipped in and not organic). We don't have any community type gardens or SDA stores. We have two Jewish Temples but no specialty store and no kosher foods in the grocery stores. I have heard there may be a kosher store about an hour from here. We now have two vegan punk restaraunts (real dives but we have seen the kitchens and feel okay eating there). I really feel lucky after reading how difficult it is for others to get good food. Especially some of our Canadian friends. I hope you can order the hemp milk or it comes to your area soon. Guest guest
Yes, it was my daughter. The article was about vegetarian kids. She gets a lot of grief from some of the kids at school for being vegan. She really has a very good sense of who she is and what she believes so she can stand up for herself without any help from me.
