Guest guest
Hello all you helpful people, My sister is 12 weeks pregnant with twins and has just been put on bed rest (she was pregnant with triplets but lost one). She's going to be sitting around reading an awful lot so I want to give her some positive connections to the outside world, and I wondered if any of you could recommend good groups she could join. Here are some key things that would be nice for her to find people in similar situations: -- twin pregnancy, on bedrest -- newly vegetarian (about 3 months) -- has had breast reduction surgery and wants to breastfeed -- plans to cloth diaper, at least partly because of limited financial resources Other good resources, i.e. books or websites, that you know of would be appreciated too. Maybe something about very simple veg recipes for food to sustain a twin pregnancy, since her husband will have to do all the cooking! I have a feeling they'll be backsliding to meat through this. Thanks, Heather (in Ontario, Canada)

Guest guest
Congrats to your sis on the twin preg. My twins are getting ready to turn one. Twins Magazine: http://www.twinsmagazine.com/ (they have a good message board) Diaper Swappers: http://www.diaperswappers.com/ Diaper Pages: http://diaperpages.com/index.php Wholesome Baby Food: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/ Mothers of Multiples: http://www.mothersofmultiples.com/ National Organization of Mothers of twins: http://www.nomotc.org/ I wasn't a veg when I was preg so I can't speak to that, but I " m sure you will get lots of advice here. Apples and peanut butter and peanut butter toast were two of my favs while preg though. I would say to start trying to prepare and freeze meals for after the babies come. Maybe you guys can solicit family to start doing that for them. I cloth diaper (during the day) ... tell her that she will hear lots of nay sayers, but she CAN do it w/ twins. Just keep it simple. If she wants any kind of advice feel free to give her my email address!!! Good luck to her.. When is she due? Laura Mount I am training for my first TRIATHLON with Team In Training! Guest guest
there are several very good groups for pregnancy bedrest. I can't remember the names but search pregnancy bedrest on and you'll find them. I was on bedrest for 4 months and they were lifesavers for me. I might also suggest that you call her very regularly. It is very lonely. Guest guest
i have two in cloth diapers full-time - not twins, but i don't feel like it's all that much different. sometimes it's a hassle but when i think of that cup of crude oil that goes into every disposable, i could never even consider doing anything but cloth. we use one-size-fits-all hemp fitteds and i make my own covers from recycled wool and cotton yarn. not very expensive at all to do it that way. Guest guest
These aren't , but other message boards. Hope that's OK: The LLL message boards were very helpful to me and not as intimidating or time consuming as going to a meeting in person. They even have live chats! http://forums.llli.org/ A fun community with lots of good info and support is BabyNames: http://babynames.com/iboards/ And another message board that covers all these topics and more is the one from Mothering magazine: http://www.mothering.com/discussions/ I got most of my cloth diapers initally on Diaper Swappers and eBay www.diaperswappers.com Can you tell I frequest a lot of message boards? :-) Many of the NINO babywearing groups are on and can be a good resource for local moms, help her make some connections in her area to help her on a variety of topics. http://nineinnineout.org/localgroups.htm Since she's newly vegetarian, the book Your Vegetarian Pregnancy: A Month-by-Month Guide to Health and Nutrition by Holly Roberts might be a good one for her. And the most useful breastfeeding book I have is The Nursing Mother's Companion by Kathleen Huggins.
