Guest guest
About coffee and anything with caffeine for kids--I try to avoid it 100%. First of all, healthy kids have so much energy anyway, why give them stimulants? Secondly, caffeine interferes with the absorption of calcium, always to be careful about with all kids, and especially vegan kids. With our pre-teen (12) son, when he hasn't gotten quite enough sleep (they sleep more at this almost adolescent phase), and has an important and demanding event, like a game Sunday morning when the bus leaves for Rio at 8am, a big test at 7am, etc., I give him an iced tea, or even a Coke. He's so unaccustomed to caffeine that the effect is strong, and takes care of these rare moments when he needs an extra boost. Normally, however, this lifetime vegan kid has so much energy that we have to turn him loose on the boardwalk to run 5-8km, a few days a week, just to use up the excess energy! My daughter gets small amounts of hot and iced tea, sometimes with soymilk (hot), and with a little sugar, but not large amounts. We drink more tea in our household, so she sometimes has a quarter cup when we have a mug of tea. Sometime decaf, sometimes caffeinated, whatever we're drinking. 2) Our kids are vegan for health, not ethics, so I wouldn't have problems with horse riding. (though we don't do it for lack of interest) Wendy http://crafter.blogspot.com I need opinions from you very wise folks!
