Guest guest
Hi all, What are the best sources of iron for a vegan? and is there any thing you can take to help a person absorb iron better?. Looking forward to your responses!!!
Guest guest
I use liquid chlorophyll with my clients, nettles, sometimes yellow dock as iron sources. Germanium is the supplement to aid in iron absorption. If you have other questions, please feel free to email me directly, Peace, Laura in MD ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Pistachios, cashews, lentils, garbanzos(chick peas) black molassas, tahini. Beans, dark leafy green all are good sources of iron. Vitamin C aids in absorption of iron. Calcium inhibits it, so don't eat it at the same time. Hope that helps. The only thing I have to add is that cooking with iron pots & pans helps, too. It's the one time you WANT leaching to occur. Liz

Guest guest
Good point! I forgot to mention that as well, esp. with acidic foods in them (tomatoes are great for this btw). I only forgot as they are my only pans. LOL. Missie On 6/15/07, ERB <bakwin wrote: > > Missie wrote: > > <<Pistachios, cashews, lentils, garbanzos(chick peas) black molassas, > tahini. Guest guest
Hi there I am bit late in my reply, but i went thru a low in iron phase and even though i was taking iron rich food like multi grain breakfast, leafy green, beans and lenthil etc.. i noticed i was still low on iron and then last year i emailed this group and also checked on some websites on this. Here are somethings that i found useful 1. apart from eating Iron rich food, make sure you suppliment with iron absorbing food. lkike orange, other citrus etc. 2. Try to avoid havign tea along with iron rich food (in my case i was having tea with breakfast and that was the time i had most of my iron rich food. 3. Flax seed is very high in iron, you can find different cereals with Flax seed or even buy the sead seperately, dry roast them and mix a couple of spoons with your daily cereal. 4. Potato is rich in iron too. other iron rich items are brocolli, greens, dates (and some other dry fruits), lenthils, 5. also heard Blackstrap molasses is good too ( i don't know much about it, but read it was very good) here are some useful links: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/iron.htm http://huhs.harvard.edu/PDF/IronNutrition2004.pdf http://www.bchealthguide.org/healthfiles/hfile68d.stm http://www.thedoctorwillseeyounow.com/articles/nutrition/fedef_17/ Fussy?
