Guest guest
Does anyone think a two-year-old needs vitamin supplements? She recently stopped breast feeding -- and I noticed her looking at dad's vitamins the other day -- got me wondering if she should have some. She eats a pretty healthy mostly organic diet. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you'd like to share on this. ~Paul
Guest guest
At that age, we asked our family doctor if we should start giving our son vitamins. She told us that if he was eating a wide variety of foods not to worry about it. She said she'd reassess in another year, and recently (he's 4 now) she still said the same thing. Of course around 2, he started getting vaguely picky -but we relized that it wasn't that, it was he just wasn't very hungry all the time. So, for peace of mind, around 3yrs old, we started giving him the vegetarian dolphin vitamins. He still takes them now, because I still worry about him not getting the 'right stuff' when he has those not very hungry days. We don't give them every day, probably about every other day (same as when we started when he was 3). He's growing normally, and he still eats a wide variety of foods, so I shouldn't really worry, but I do. Guest guest
My kids (3 & 2) take some veg-friendly (though I'm not sure if they're vegan) kids' multis every other day. The recommended dose is two per day but we just give them one every other day. It's enough to where I feel they're beneficial, but I really don't think that with their good diet that they need the full amount. The ones we use are Rhino gummy bears. They have a " vegetarian approved " symbol on the bottle and they don't have any milk or eggs. They seem to be vegan, but of course you could always call them and ask. They taste really good too... yeah, I steal my kids' vitamins. So? Paul Falvo <pfalvo wrote: Does anyone think a two-year-old needs vitamin supplements? Guest guest
I stopped nursing around 3 years with both of my kids and never thought to start them on vitamins, since they ate a good, varied diet. My MIL, however, bought Flinstones chewables, gave them to my DH and asked him to give them to the kids. Unbelievable. You run a greater risk of them choking on those gummy vitamins than of being vitamin deficient at this point. Wait until they are older, that's my opinion. Guest guest
Paul, We also give our son vitamins. Our doctor did not recommend it, but indicated it wouldn't hurt so we made a decision when our son turned 4 to give him vitamins. We use Source of Life ourselves so when we found out Source of Life has a children's vitamin, Animal Parade, we just stuck with a brand we like. http://www.sourceoflife.com/products/product_details.asp?productNumber=29980 <http://www.sourceoflife.com/products/product_details.asp?productNumber=2998 0 & criteria=keywordSearchResults & category=12> & criteria=keywordSearchResults & category=12 _____ On Behalf Of Missie Ward Thursday, August 09, 2007 12:02 PM [Norton AntiSpam] Re: toddler vitamin supplements? Guest guest
At 2-1/2 we started our daughter in preschool two days a week. I started giving her a chewable echinacea/C (3 weeks on, one week off). I know that this is controversial, and I know that she was sick much less often and for shorter durations than the other kids.
