Guest guest
I heard a lot of good things about green smoothies in terms of benefits and taste, but had problems with the drink because proper food combining principles discourage mixing fruits and veggies together. However, I discovered that the apple is one exceptional fruit that is high compatible with veggies. So, I decided to blend 2 apples in my Vita-Mix with a few leaves from purple kale greens without adding any water to the mixture, and produced a delicious smoothie that I plan to consume regularly! Have not heard this before. Does this mean that all those " fruit and veggie " drinks are misguided? ~Paul

I thought it only applies if you combine root veggies with veggies that grow above the soil. Guest guest
I would be interested in seeing the science behind this; I am certain that most of us combine potatoes and/or carrots with lots of other veggies. liza <lirocheus wrote: >because proper food combining principles discourage mixing fruits and veggies together. Guest guest
I'm no expert, but I have heard many different theories about food combining. You won't find two scientists/nutritionists who agree on every theory, just as there are many different ways to approach excercise, pain relief, you-name-it. There IS something to the no-mixing of acids and starches, but rules are meant to be broken and no one ever died from it. I think we can all agree that meat goes with NOTHING. Blah. Guest guest
I think the decision to mix fruits and veggies is one of those " what is better versus what is best " choices. The following is my understanding as to why it is not best to mix fruits and veggies: Raw fruit passes through the intestines more quickly than most other foods. If fruit are mixed with other foods (like veggies), the passage of the fruit will slow down, causing its fermentation.
