Do you know why they are called " Crybabies? " Just wondering if there is a story behind this recipe. My grandmother told me that gingerbread cookies were great teething cookies. when the baby cries. But searching on the web, I'm not find that image. Just the one of " crying for more. " here's the intro from the book if you want to tack it on as a note to the recipe " Like gingerbread only better, these moist cookies have the right degree of chewiness and an altogether winning flavor. They are great keepers, but when they get a bit stale, they are terrific dunkers. Try one of the rye babies, and you'll be a crybaby for more. " - from The Splendid Grain by R.
