Guest guest
" Well alrighty then " (to quote crazy comedien Jim Carey), I made my soy yogurt and " It ain't half Bad!!!! " Actually, I think that it's very tasty. For all of you out there who like an extra tangy yogurt, well, this may not be strong enough for you. This is exactly what I did: Heated up 1 litre of fat-free soy milk until it was warm...very warm baby formula warm. If you want to do this part in the microwave, it would be for about 4-5 minutes. If you used the microwave, then you can use the covered casserole that you " nuked " it in. Otherwise, pour warmed milk into a glass or ceramic casserole dish with a lid. Whisk in a small container of plain soy yogurt. I used the Olympic brand. It uses non-GM soybeans, a little dextrose, tapioca starch, and active cultures, and I think that it tastes pretty good. Cover the casserole and wrap the whole thing in two or three bath towels. Then, leave it in a warm oven all night. I heated the oven up to about 175 F, put the yogurt-to-be in, and then turned it off. With the towels wrapped around the casserole, I have found that it maintains it's temperature all night. I tasted it this morning with a little vanilla and stevia and it was very palatable, IMHO. :0) I have found though that when I make yogurt like this, it is a bit runnier but I don't mind. Later, after it has completely cooled in the fridge, I will transfer it into smaller, serving jars and keep it that way in the fridge. Anyone else wanna give it a try and let us know how it works for you??? Stef
Guest guest
Wow, Stef, that's amazing -- and you didn't even use a yogurt maker! Thanks for giving us the details of your experiment.
