Guest guest
This article from the IVU-Veg-News. Interesting advance. Best love, Pat. ------- (IN) PETA takes a step ahead, now promotes veganism PETA (People for Ethical Treatment Towards Animals), India, who are ardent advocates of vegetarianism, have taken a step forward -- they now promote veganism, which calls for desisting from consuming even milk products! ''We are going one step ahead of vegetarianism. We are promoting veganism,'' says PETA (India) chief functionary Anuradha Sawhney. Elaborating on PETA's angst against consuming milk products, Ms Sawhney explains, ''Our celebrations (which, of course, would remain incomplete if not allowed to feast on a plateful of sweets) can seem like chaos to animals.'' She suggests consumption of vegan sweets instead, which can be prepared using soya milk. Soya milk and bean curd are excellent replacements for milk and cheese, Ms Sawhney told UNI here. Besides, animal milk may not be good for humans after all, she says quoting Dr John McDougall, world-renowned health advisor to former US President Bill Clinton, who has likened cow's milk to ''liquid meat''. It can lead to heart disease, cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis. .... ''All over the world people are turning vegetarian. There are more than 17 million vegetarians in the United States alone and one million more switch to a meat-free diet every year. In England 2,000 people turn vegetarian every week,'' says Ms Sawhney. She echoes the world's foremost epidemiologist Dr T Colin Campbell's contention that the vast majority of all cancers, cardiovascular diseases and other forms of degenerative illnesses can be prevented, simply by adopting a plant-based diet. ''Dr Dean Orish of the University of California at San Francisco has demonstrated that artery blockages can be reversed with a low-fat, dairy-free vegetarian diet instead of invasive and costly surgeries,'' she further adds. -- full story: http://news.webindia123.com/news/showdetails.asp?id=244484 & cat=Health
