Hi Everyone,

I am new to this group and to the new way of eating. I have tried

before and caved in. I am 52 years old, I live in lower Michigan. I

am very overweight and have tried evry stinking diet there is:) I

had major surgery 4 weeks ago and am recovering nicely.

I am very concerned about animal cruelty, and the fact that I

feel

we have been getting enough messages from the universe to stop

eating meat. With all the diseases that are coming from eating

meat. I have family members that think I have gone off my

rocker, oh well:).

I am hoping to live a healthier rest of my life, and this way of

eating is the begining. Next is exercise, ugh. This will be a

challenge as I just hate it plain and simple. I hope to start with

walking my precious dogs daily, I have only said I was going to do

this for 3 years now, it is time that I do it. Of course it is too

hot or too cold, or too wet.......etc...

I can't wait to get started, I bought a slow cooker vegetarian

cookbook it has some delicious looking recipes in it. I am also

going

to go back in these messages and look for some good recipes.

Well thank you for having me and I will be eagerly reading and

getting started on my new journey.

Welcome, Ginny,

I'm pretty new, too, and am trying to go from " semi-vegetarian " to vegan.

We're here to help each other!

Hi Ginny,

Good to have you here! I've noticed lately that there are several

of us newcomers who are in our fifties. I'm 53, and I'm also " on

the road " to becoming vegetarian.

As far as exercise--I love it because we are fortunate to have a Y

here and it's kind of a social thing for me at this point. It's

like getting to see friends and visit with them every day--in a

carefree setting--where we're all having fun. But somewhere

recently I was reading about someone who was doing walking videos at

home. Sansome? something like that. And this person really enjoyed

it because it was accessible for her and not too complicated and she

was able to do it even when the weather outside was bad. I think

walking the dogs sounds like a great plan!

Hope some of those slow cooker recipes work out, and then hopefully

you'll post some of them for us!

Welcome! Paula

Hi there Paula - yes I too had noticed that there were a number of you

youngsters about.

Always nice to see those bright and shining faces! I'm Pat and I'm 65, and I too

like to

walk. Not sure what a 'walking video' is - can you explain? When it rains I walk

under an

umbrella and raincoat; when there's an ice storm or blizzard, well that's a

different kettle

of bananas. I guess there are others in the same position, so I would be

interested to

know.

Thanks a bunch!

Best love, Pat

Hi Pat,

Looks like Ginny has already answered this question! But I did a

google anyway and came up with this link:

http://www.collagevideo.com/cart/default.aspx

I used to order from collage all the time before I joined the Y. I've

always been happy with their service. THey have a catalog that is

kind of neat because they have people that actually do the tapes and

rate them. If you click on any of the titles on the page I sent it

will describe that video in pretty great detail.

A note of interest, in my Google search I also came across a consumer

complaint site of people who had ordered Sansone videos off of an

infomercial. The complaints were not about the videos, but rather

that the company kept sending additional items like vitamins that

were not ordered...and deducting them from the credit card number that

was used to pay for the tapes.

HTH! Paula P.S. Been a while since I've been called a " youngster "

Hee Hee!

I just clicked this link and I need to add that it's more informative

if you take it one step farther. Over at the left of the page are

three search bars. Just put " walking " in the " search by keyword "

option. This will take you to the screen I was talking about in my

original post. Paula
