Guest guest
I don't know if they are good for slimming but found this: Peanuts gaining reputation for health benefits Jan 26, 2005 10:16 AM By Tim Lockette, University of Florida Peanuts are often thought of as a high-fat food, but party goers can feel a little better about reaching for the roasted nuts. Not only do peanuts contain the so-called " good " kind of fat, but University of Florida researchers have found they also are high in a wide variety of helpful antioxidants, rivaling the fruits often sought out by health-conscious consumers. " When it comes to antioxidant content, peanuts are right up there with strawberries, " said Steve Talcott, an assistant professor of feed science and human nutrition at UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. " We expected a fairly high antioxidant content in peanuts, but we were a bit shocked to find they're as rich in antioxidants as many kinds of fruit. Guest guest
Whether or not someone has declared them 'healthy' (compared to what, I wonder - french fries? Donuts?), they have around 160 or so calories an ounce and 13 g. fat. That places them, other than a few chopped for garnish, on occasion, on an entire meal, out of bounds for Vegetarian Slimming. This is a _low-fat_ group. (As for comparing peanuts to almonds in any way, that's comparing apples and oranges. Almonds are nuts; peanuts are legumes.) For snacks suitable for slimmers, raw vegetables make excellent munchies :-) Best love, Pat > I don't know if they are good for slimming but found this: > > Peanuts gaining reputation for health benefits
Guest guest
According to my daughter-in-law, who is something of an expert in these matters, peanuts, at least those grown in the U.S., are heavily laden with pesticides, and that is a good reason to avoid them. I don't know if organically-grown peanuts are available, but I have seen organic peanut butter in some stores. Annice
Guest guest
Thanks for the remindeer! I'm on my way to my local pusher of dried organic stuff (beans, seeds, grains, etc.) and see if he has organic peanuts. Organic pb I get from our local supermarket (one of the few things I still get from them apart from soymilk if I start to run out).
