Guest guest
Hello, For moral reasons and not health (sorry!) I am truly trying to get away from meat. For my value system, I can't stand the thought of eating something that has been tortured. Even if you don't agree, I won't mind. It is a controversial issue, I admit. But this is my question: Because I am in the process of transfering over to eating less meat and hopefully one day none, I wanted to know if just not eating meat makes a person lose weight. Does it? I wouldn't know having never done it. Stupid question? I hope not. I am embarrased as it is. Thanks. Stay in the know. Pulse on the new .com. Check it out. For my value system, I can't stand the thought of eating something that has been tortured. Even if you don't agree, I won't mind. It is a controversial issue, I admit. Nice to see you here! Never feel you have to apologise on a veggie group for being moral/ethical *lol* I am co-owner of this group and have been a member (at one addy or another) since the second day it began. I was vegetarian but have recently become completely vegan - and I too am veg for ethical reasons. But even 'ethical veggies' might put on a few pounds now and then and want to lose them in a healthy way! I don't think you can count on losing weight from cutting meat out of your diet (but thanks for asking - so many people come to vegetarianism thinking they can eat anything as long aas it isn't me*t and then wonder why they don't lose). Even as a vegetarian you can easily take in as many calories and even more because of what you eat to replace it - and of course that means more poundage unless you're exercising like crazy to keep it off. Many make the mistake of increasing dairy, for example. It's the same as with any other eating regime, slimming/weight-loss diet or other: burn off more than you eat, you lose weight; eat more than you can burn off, you gain weight. Here we are _low-fat_ in our diet as well as cutting down on or cutting out sugar, refined carbohydrates, etc. etc. I could go on (ask them - I really could, couldn't I???? *lol*), but I'll leave space for you to think about it, look around at our slimming recipes (in the Files on our webpage at vegetarianslimming/files - quite a few goodies there!), etc., and wait for more questions. Congratulations for deciding to become vegetarian. Your body will thank you (as long as you eat right) and the animals will thank you regardless Best love, Pat (co-owner, vegetarianslimming)
Guest guest
Not a stupid question. :-) No, not eating meat doesn't make one automatically lose weight. There are healthy ways to be a vegetarian and not-so-healthy ways. Eating a lot of processed foods, starches, cheeses can even add some pounds. Try & stick with more veggies then breads, more tofu than nuts/beans (for protein), etc etc. A lot of veg recipes are pastas, potatoes, cheese dished and those suckers can be heavy! We've been finding recipes using fresh produce that's in season (farmers markets rock!). It will take some trial & error but you'll find which veg foods are better than others. Guest guest
Hi Julie, I had a friend that gave up meat for 90 days, just to see if she could do it and she lost a great deal of weight. I think she was working out too though. Yvette Julie Kinglsey <julie.kingsley wrote: Hello, For moral reasons and not health (sorry!) I am truly trying to get away from meat.
