Guest guest
My Answers to the VEGETARIAN SLIMMING QUESTIONNAIRE My name is Carri and I live in Las Vegas Nevada. I am 29 and have an awsome family. My husband Joshua, My 5 year old Nathan, my 4 year old Zachary and I have one in the bun! Dute date is April 2,2007. I grew up in Santa Cruz California so being here in Las Vegas is quite a shock! Everything is different here! Wehn I was 18 I became a vegetarian and stayed one till I was 24. Not sure why I stopped. But I want to try and better my life and I think this would be one good step. I knwo I am pregnant but I don't want to get HUGE. I already weight about 240. So I hope that I can do this and stay HEALTHY for BABY! Any input would be happily taken. Nice to meet all of you! Carri P.S. My family has no interest in being veggie. So that's a hurdel in itself. My kids I don't think would mind but my hubby would not even think of it..
Guest guest
Welcome Cari!! Congrats on you trying to eat healthy for your baby and for yourself!! I can relate living with a meat and potatos man. My best advice for you is PLANNING! You can probably introduce your children to a veggie diet, but you will most always end up making two dinners. I try and find out what my husband would like, and then plan my meal accordingly. Hamburger night is very easy. I eat veggie burgers..he has the cow burgers. Other times it can get hairy, mainly because I'm not a very good cook, but vegetarian cooking is pretty easy and fast, so I can usually make both meals and have them ready at the same time. I also try and make a lot of something that I can freeze...like vegetarian ratoullie...(which is excellant!! and cheap!!) Other options...spaghetti with separate meat/no meat sauces. Make enough and freeze your sauces...so you can pour on the correct one on your pasta! Same thing with chili...make a pot of veggie chilli and add hubby's meat right before you serve. (Unless he hates veggies like mine)...then you will have to make a pot of both...but both will freeze well. Take advantage of current veggies. There are sooo many things to do with zuchinni...and it's in season. Many people will give it to you for free...so if you know someone with a garden, they are probably clammering to give some away! That's all I have for now. Keep it up!!! For other news...I just joined last week...and I have been trying to be good..and I lost 5 pounds since last Thursday! Yippeee!! Guest guest
Nancy, way to go on the 5 pounds! Unfourtunatly I don't know a lot of people here let alone anyone with a garden. LOL! We live in the desert. It's horrible here. BUT, I found the local farmers market and I am going tomorrow. Maybe there I can get some good veggies and get some tips on growing in Las Vegas. Guest guest
Hello, Carri, and welcome to the Group. You certainly will have your hands full with a non- veggie family and a new baby too! Lots of luck, hon, and take some of that excellent advice on meal planning just given to you by one of our members. Remember, though, that you have to be careful to look after your own health too. To introduce myself, I am Pat, and I am co-owner here on Vegetarian Slimming. I live in southwestern Ontario with my husband. Both of us are vegan and both like to cook, so things run pretty smoothly in our household. No comfort to you, I realize, to say that - but you never know. Your husband *could* decide to go veggie, at least some of the time! (No? Ah well, you can hope, eh? <big smile>) We hope you like the group - you will have seen posts from Piers, my co-owner here, and you will no doubt meet Haras, who helps with the moderating, and Maida, another moderator who specializes in posting the recipes to the Files area. You can see we have a lot of great slimming recipes there, so take a look: vegetarianslimming/files and click into the Recipes folder! You might also want to check out the Links - we have some good sites on health, nutrition and a host of other things there for everyone. All the very best of luck - I hope to chat with you more before long! Pat :=)
Guest guest
Hello Cari, I've been here for ages - let me see, new since yesterday. But I extend a welcome like as if I've been here for years. You've already had more response than me, but good luck with your bun, and with being ethically responsible even when surrounded by non-Vs. I have the same prob when my non-veggie wife takes me to her family home. I am bombarded with speciesist hostility - comments like " the best food is from something that's looked over a hedge " , generally in good natured banter. They're too old or narrow-minded to consider any ethical or philosophical arguments, but I often am able to nudge a wink when they see news about Mad Cow Disease, non-meat diets get recommended by their surgeons, and when issues of green living become important.
