Guest guest
So...seeing as how we are a Vegetarian Slimming oriented group, I thought we could talk about where we are on our diet/eating habit journey, methods used or if we're using low-cal recipes to maintain weight, etc. I'll start. I am actively doing Weight Watchers and have lost 17.4 pounds so far (hopefully more after tomorrow's weigh-in!). My partner is also doing it with me and she has lost 11 pounds. I have a bunch more weight to lose than her, but it is really nice to have the support and to be doing this together. I've found the biggest change to be is that we really look over our stock of cookbooks and online resources for recipes on Friday for the following week so we can make a list and hit our Farmers Market on Saturday mornings to get all the yummy goodness! I have taken to eating a lot more fruit; apples galore right now ~ so many varieties in our area right now. I tried a new one last week called an Arkansas Black ~ very unique flavor. This is my first attempt at any sort of weight loss even though I've been heavy for a while and I'm glad it seems to be working for me without having to make a lot of drastic changes. I think the key is to not deprive yourself of decadent items every now & then and in moderation. Knowing I can have yummy desserts or whatnot every so often makes it not feel like a " diet " per se but more of a healthier way of eating life change. Guest guest
That’s great that your partner is doing WW with you. I would like a partner but it seams no one want this old fat lady. I too am doing WW, the Core plan. I lost 10 pounds the first week but I have 100 pounds to lose. (well 90 now) We are in between growing seasons down here so I too am going to the Farmers Market after my WW meeting tomorrow. Everyone is raving about the all-new Mail. Guest guest
Yea, it is nice that we're doing it together. We're doing the FlexPlan still although we will probably change at some point to the Core plan. Hey, 10 pounds is better than 0 Zen! I only lost 0.8 pounds this past week, but that's ok as we had a few dinners out. Any lose is better than a gain in my eyes! Just keep at it and don't give up because you aren't seeing immediate results...even if you aren't losing like you'd like, at least you're eating better, right? Guest guest
Yes Cindi, Any lose is better than a gain. I went to the 7 a.m. meeting this morning only to find them closed for the day due to a staff meeting or something. Probably getting to learn the new program. Oh well, I’ll have to pay double next week. 232/221/132 Cindi <cindi93069 wrote: Yea, it is nice that we're doing it together. I've been doing WeightWatchers (Flex) since February. I've lost 30 pounds, which means I'm more than halfway to my goal. Now that I'm used to it, it's not too bad. It's made me much more aware of what I eat, which is the main thing that I needed. Haras the Wonder Frog Princess of the Sandwiches ] " To forget a friend is sad, not everyone ] has had a friend. Guest guest
Haras, Congratulations on being half way to your goal. That is great. Every year WW comes up with a new thing to get people excited to join. They cane up with the Flex plan because people didn't want to follow the balanced exchange program. Then they came up with the Cor plan for the people who didn't want to weight n masseur. Now that people are getting back to healthier eating (thanks to Core) I think they are going to up the fruits/vegetables to 9. I'm sure you do that already anyways, right? Guest guest
Hi Haras ~ I agree ~ the biggest thing we've noticed while doing WW is being aware of what we're eating and more importantly, how much. At first, we were really surprised at how big (or small) a serving of something actually is but we've adjusted well. Congrats on the 30 pound loss and being more than halfway to your goal! Guest guest
I love weight watchers :0) I'm doing a modified " flore " plan, counting points while trying to eat only core foods, trying to stay " natural as possible " I'm having a " bad WW day " today, I think I'm letting my emotions get the better of me I'm just feeling lonley & today DH made a comment about all the meatless meals I've been cooking. Guest guest
Whit, I guess I’m doing the " flore " plan also, except today. I'm also having a bad WW day. I had my 2 granddaughters all day and they just picked on each other. They are always so quite I just don’t know what was up with them but I’m just not use to it. And I have been very sick, I wasn’t coping well so I took them to McDonalds for breakfast and again for lunch. I have no idea how many points that was so I should just forget it n eat Hard Core the rest of the week. Guest guest
I assume/hope if there's a big change they'll mention it on the website, since I've never been to a meeting. Honestly, I'm not as good as I should be about making sure I'm getting the right number of fruit/vegetable servings. I certainly eat more fruits and vegetables than I did pre-WW since the low point count encourages me to. Guest guest
Thanks. I haven't figured out how much weight I want to lose in the long run. I'm fewer than 10 pounds from my initial goal weight, but I may lower it by 10-20 pounds. I want to wait and see how I look/feel as I get closer to that weight. I eventually gave in and bought a food scale, which has made things much easier. It was possible to find ways to cheat when a serving of a solid food was 1 cup, but I can't cheat when it comes to weight. Either something is 36 grams or it isn't. Guest guest
Regarding WW -- do you follow a special vegetarian diet with them, or pick and choose your own foods. (I never quite " got " the whole points thing.) I'm thinking about trying this again (after the holidays - lol). It's ridiculous, but even being a vegetarian for 1-1/2 yr. and vegan for over 2 mos., I haven't dropped a pound!! I thought surely after giving up eggs, cheese, etc. the weight would drop off, that hasn't been the case. I'm still eating a little bread and usually some sweets or chocolate daily, but I did that before when I was eating meat and all the other stuff! Maybe the fact that I only have 10 lbs. or so to lose has something to do with it... Coleen Sponsored Link $420,000 Mortgage for $1,399/month - Think You Pay Too Much For Your Mortgage? Find Out! Guest guest
They say the last 10 pounds is the hardest to lose. When I went to ww they gave me a book and a chart and you had to go by the calories and fat grams. It wasn't a diet per say just had to stay within 27 points. I'm just watching my portions. That is very hard to do, especially for me I am an emotional eater. Guest guest
No, we don't follow a special veg diet per se...but we do seek out lower cal/healthier meals to make during the week. We'll pick a few yummy looking recipes and figure out the point value for each and decide which ones we want to do that week. We've cut back on some favorites we used to make that were heavier. We've become more aware of portion sizes and our fruit & vegetable intake. On the other hand, we usually buy a couple of " fancy " chocolate bars during our weekly grocery shopping and treat ourselves to a piece or 2 nightly. We still eat some snacks that are heavier but we only eat a serving's worth instead of who knows how much! It's more about moderation than elimination. That's what's been working for me & my partner at least... Cindi Coleen <cece4184 wrote: Regarding WW -- do you follow a special vegetarian diet with them, or pick and choose your own foods. Guest guest
Maybe because I've been following Dr. McDougall's guidelines where he says it's okay to eat several potatos, etc. (Of course, my meals out haven't helped, either!) Guest guest
Hi zen, When I am really upset I tend to go for the starchy foods. Bread, and chips. Any kind of chips will do. My favorites is potato chips and to a lesser extent corn chips. It's not too healthy for you but that is the foods that I crave when circumstances are crashing in on me.
